Terrible staff, terrible service, terrible and expensive food. The rooms are infested with scorpions, killed two in our room and found two more in our suitcases. Shuttle buses run nonstop up and down the mountain right outside your window driving you nuts.

The view is the only good thing we had. The staff was all 21-26 years old and acted like 15 year olds. We had two rooms and both had horrible scorpion infestations. We went to tell the front desk but all three staff members laughed at us. They said they have 100s of scorpions its no big deal. Food was...

Stayed here for a mountain bike race in November. I really enjoyed it, but... I'm relatively young and very fit! Too many reviewers have gone over the shortcomings from a North American traveller's perspective... But folks... This is COST RICA! Yes, it's a long hard walk if you don't take the shuttle... Yes, it rains a lot - it's the...

We stayed here for 2 nights on a Gate 1 tour of Costa Rica. The rooms were very nice and are situated very high up on a hill with a beautiful view. The hotel provides shuttle service down to the lobby and restaurant, and it's usually pretty prompt. Saw amazing sunsets right from our room. The only down side was...

Very disappointing. Ask for a high # room on a top floor. We did but didn't get it and we're disappointed. We ate on premises and food was ok. The highlight was going zip lining on premises We also did a sugar cane / coffee plantation tour that was ok.

Yes, you are immersed in the middle of the cloud forest, surrounded by wildlife and mountains; yet you have an amazing view to the Gulf of Nicoya and its islands. The hotel is very nice, comfortable and clean. Its gourmet restaurant is quite nice and right next to a small lake surrounded by a wonderful garden. Close you just about...

I wanted to love this hotel - the room are in blocks situated on a hillside with probably the most magnificent views I've ever seen from a hotel - right out across the Nicoya peninsula. And it's right up in the cloudforest. Trouble was, it's so sparsely laid out that the hotel has to provide vans to transport people. It's...

We stayed two nights at El Establo hotel during our Costa Rica trip with Gate 1. I think there are 9 separate buildings which are spread along very steep hill. Our group stayed in building 600. No matter whether you climb up or walk down, it’s not easy because the hill is extremely steep. The hotel offers a free shuttle...

My family and I recently stayed in El Establo...they had a wonderful family suite with a king-sized bed downstairs, a king-sized bed in the loft area upstairs, and an additional twin-bed in a sitting area off of the upstairs loft area. Our view of the valley from our 100-300 building was beautiful, despite being the lowest on the mountain. We...
