Things that were best:
The room was modern, large with a view to die for. Decent shower pressure, clean linens, comfy bed and good pillows. The food was buffet style, healthy and tasty.
The on site canopy zip line and it's guides thrilling beyond words....More
Hotel El Establo is a converted Quaker farming property with spacious rooms, excellent views, and great location. The front desk was extremely helpful, and spoke perfect English. Below I will detail separately the rooms, property, and restaurants.

Lovely large room (yellow walls, fern green carpet) with large glass window/door to beautiful vista below of Pacific cove. The hotel is set on several levels and a shuttle bus service is in operation to take guestup and down from their rooms to dinning room...More
The room itself was great - and fantastic views over Monteverde valley and with its own rainforest preserve to explore trails. We got the impression its sheer size made for difficulties - just getting to breakfast required either a 10-15 minute walk down steep slopes...More
This place is impressively artsy, bordering on the pretentious. Great views, but numerous annoying features. The architect should have been required to spend a few nights there. No place in the overly spacious shower to put soap or hair products, poor lighting in the bathroom;...More

I found the breakfast buffet at each hotel to be very similar. Some items you can find are "typical" Costa Rican food like rice and beans and American food like cereals, oatmeal, yogurt, waffles and pancakes (at some places), eggs, etc. All buffets had juice, coffee, water, milk, tea and fruits like bananas, pineapple, papaya, etc. Hope you have fun!

Yes there are hair dryers. The buffet breakfast has fresh fruits of all kinds, different flavors of yogurt, eggs, sausage, jalapeño poppers, rice, beans, bread for toast, etc. There is a small market that has everything you'd need walking distance, about 7 minutes walk towards town. A very large supermarket is a 3 minute, $3 taxi ride away.
