The hosts, Karin and Mark are very helpful and friendly.

The hotel is located 15mins by bus away from lauterbrunnen. The is only a bus that serves it with an hourly schedule, as such travelling in n out of the Isenfulh can be a hassle. But it is also this that creates the peace and tranquility of the place.

The hotel facilities are good. Room was sufficiently big, toilet facilities were acceptable. The breakfast spread provided by Mark and Karin are good. Although there is no variation over the 4 days, we still found the breakfast filling, tasty and sufficient.

Karin was also able to provide good advice on places to visit or to take hike if the weather was not suitable for visiting the mountain - jungfrau.

Dinner served at the restaurant was tasty although I did find the menu quite limited. The fondue and rosti were one of the best I tasted in Switzerland in my whole trip, in total I tried and 3 other restaurants. The wine the recommended was also to my liking.

The most idyllic setting on the cliffs of the Lauterbrunnen Valley, This guesthouse is a
Gem for travellers wanting to unplug from the city-centric life. The rooms were cozy, traditional Swiss chalet style, the food was mouth-watering and home-made and the village itself was one of the most beautiful places we've ever seen. Each morning we were offered croissants, bread, cheeses and meats, eggs, a selection of accompaniments and wonderful coffee. We were travelling with a 4 and 1 year old and were made to feel so comfortable, with Karin and her team making every effort to accomodate our needs. The hiking around here is amazing (don't miss Lobhornhutte), there are more family activities than you could ever hope and as a bonus, Waldrand was incredibly well priced for a notoriously expensive country. The only reason there aren't more amazing reviews on this place is because of the lack of self promotion. Make sure you experience it before the world discovers this little secret!

The Waldron is run by Karin and Markus. You couldn't wish to find more friendly, helpful, efficient hosts anywhere!
Karin is front of house, and housekeeper. Markus is the chef and he cooks with as much local produce as he can. It's all delicious.
Our room was large but felt cosy due to the rustic decoration. We had a balcony with table and chairs, and a breath taking view of the snow capped mountains.
The bathroom was adequate.
Karin was a delight. She went the extra mile with everything she did for us.The little extra touches were really appreciated.
Breakfast was very good. Not often are you offered an egg done anyway you like for continental breakfast. Plus meats and cheese with the usual croissants and bread.
The hotel is situated in a normal working village on the mountain. To reach it you have to drive through a single track 3/4 mile long corkscrew tunnel!
Lauterbrunnen is a 10 minute drive away, or a 50 minute walk through the countryside, or there is a mini bus service.
There is ample free parking at the hotel whereas in Lauterbrunnen it 's very expensive in the public car parks and hotels have very little parking available to them.
However Lauterbrunnen is a nice little town with easy access to all the tourist attractions.
We wish that we could have stayed longer than 3 days. Thanks Karin and Markus. xx from Samantha too! lol

Warning: The hotel is NOT in Lauterbrunnen, but in a small hamlet with no other facilities, 50 minutes away by foot, and with very limited hourly bus transport -- none after 6:30 p.m. The hotel offered us no transportation from train station. And taxis are not easy to find in this town.
We booked believing it to be in Lauterbrunnen, and it required a 7 franc bus ride each way into town.
While the staff is very nice, the hotel is greatly overpriced for its services. Clean but very basic, no extras (I.e. Hair dryers, safes, etc). Breakfast also basic (no fruit or eggs) and doesn't even open until 8:30 (!) unless you let them know ahead of time you need it earlier.
Restaurant OK, but nothing to go out of the way for.
We were there on Mon and Tuesday and the hotel closes down at 6:30 or so; strangely, there are no staff available after that for questions, coffee, tea, a beer, whatever. (And if there's an emergency, who knows? No numbers to call listed anywhere). Restaurant is closed entirely on Tuesday. And there's no other store, restaurant or bar in this community.

Response from Karin R, Geschäftsführer at Hotel Restaurant Waldrand
Responded Aug 19, 2016

I just came back from a two night stay here with my wife. All the rooms have a wonderful view of the mountains and access to a terrace with chairs to sit out and enjoy the view. We ate breakfast and dinner as well there and really enjoyed it. The owners were very nice and shared lots of tips on how to enjoy the area. The rooms were spotless and in excellent condition. This is a great place if you are looking for a quiet spot with a great view. Its probably best to have a car to come here as it is in a small village (Isenfluh) just a few minutes drive from Lauterbrunnen. We used this spot as the base for our visits to the Jungfraujoch and other sights nearby. I'm so happy we found this quiet place to relax at for our vacation.

In fairness we had been here before so expectations were not high and when we tried to order our meal we were warned that the kitchen service would be slow, BUT we did not expect to wait an hour for food, which was just the usual Swiss mountain restaurant burger /bratwurst and chips. I was further disappointed with the quality of the food, it's gone downhill, which I had not thought possible. I chose the burger as it said it was made from meat from a valley not far from the restaurant, but when it came it bore no relation to meat. Gristle, bone even but not flesh. The chips which you would have thought they could not go wrong with, were unseasoned and no seasoning offered until I asked. Why did we stop there? If you know the area you know if you have to eat, there's not much choice but there. However, next time a picnic. The view is lovely, if you want to stop just have a drink, anything else and well, you have been warned! Service was poor.

My wife, adult son and I stayed for 8 days and seven nights in July 2018. We were joined by a friend from Germany. All four of us cannot recommend the Waldrand highly enough. Karin and Marcos are great hosts and wonderful people. We occupied 3 of the 5 rooms for most of the time, so we got to know them well. The rooms were all very nice and well equipped. No internet which was a blessing for what is going on in the US. We ate breakfast everyday and dinner every night there. (They don't serve dinners on Mon and Tues, but had recommendations that we enjoyed.) The food was very good and varied. Exactly what we were looking for away from the hustle, bustle and tourists. Great place to use for home base while doing the sights and hikes around the area. Highly recommend having your own car as Isenfluh is serviced by public transportation, but not frequently.

Not taking anything away from any other aspect of the hotel, but location is everything here. From the room, balcony, restaurant or terrace, the view is dominated by mountains. Such an incredible view. The room was a good size, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food is very good.

We weren’t keen on the road up to the village. Part of it is a spiral tunnel ascending as you go. It completes more than a full circle. It’s fine for two cars to pass but we encountered a lorry and we had to reverse quite a way to a passing point. Not a huge problem but it was worth it for the views.

My mom and I were staying in Isenfluh for the week and with Waldrand being the only restaurant in the beautiful village, we happily decided to eat there for dinner every night...because it is so good and the porch views are unmatched to any restaurant view I've ever eaten at. Karin and her husband were so nice as they are the ones to run the restaurant and hotel, for which they do an amazing job at it too. The food comes out with detail to every piece and very plentiful. everything on the menu is worth a try as it is all good and perfectly cooked!
Thank you Karin and team for giving us recommendations on what to do in the area and taking time to talk to us and learn more about the Swiss culture!

We ate here 4-5 times (both lunch and dimmer) over the course of a weeks' stay in Isenfluh. Every time, we were well respected as obvious foreigners, served great meals in a variety of styles and features, and all at relatively reasonable prices.

If the weather is at least half decent you have to sit on the terrace and enjoy the fresh mountain air, and the view.
