Detailed Reviews
Our organization planned a weekend team development event at the Russell Inn and based on our feedback from our fellow team members – The Russell Inn was overwhelmingly accommodating and provided great customer service. Due to Covid protocol, many last minute changes were required and the staff was able to pivot and provide the appropriate infrastructure in place (pop up tent outside, food allergies/concerns). We provided our own sound and video projection for our outside event but the tent accommodated our group of approximately 100 team members and it was comfortable working outside.
The hotel has a variety of different accommodations that can serve different budgets. The standard 2 queen had ample space. The bathroom/toilet is closed off into a smaller area but this allows for an outside vanity sink. Lots of cabinet space for putting away stuff and a work desk area that allows for multiple plugs. Mattresses were on the softer side and an ample amount of pillows to make anyone comfortable.
The culinary staff at the resort are experts at their craft and provided our team with great options and choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was admirable that the Russell Inn took our ‘theme’ and applied it on their menu and décor. It’s the strong attention to detail and planning that sets The Russell Inn apart from other resorts.
The partner staff at the Asessippi Ski area were also very accommodating and provided great lunch and coffee/tea service. Although it was not ski season, the fall colours were celebrated with amazing views. We were also able to see the chapel area and the views were breathtaking and would be a wonderful venue for more formal events like a wedding.
I would like to call out the amazing management staff of Rheanne, Myrtle and Megan. For the Asessippi location Kendra was top notch. In the spa area, Janice provides a great deep tissue massage. For the hospitality staff serving food and drinks – maraming salamat!

Pulled in on a Sunday night with no reservation. Was offered a discounted rate on the spot.
Room 241 was very quiet and the beds and pillows were exceptionally comfortable. Nice bathroom and modern shower.
The restaurant breakfast was very good, but the service was exceptional!! Offered coffee refills many times, stopped by to see if food was good, and thanked us for our business !!
Will gladly stop in here again when going through !

Stayed for 2 nights for a conference. We had about 73 people give or take and the staff of the hotel did a phenomenal job of looking after our needs. Food was really, really good, food service staff and chef were top notch, front desk and housekeeping were fantastic and our hostess who took care of everything and was always there for us (long hours for her) was so incredibly friendly and welcoming! The hotel arranged a scavenger hunt for us which was lots of fun and provided games for our evening enjoyment. Patio with heaters was a nice touch and even though we didn’t have time to enjoy the pool it looked great. Only minor thing was that rooms were a bit outdated and electrical outlets didn’t hold anything plugged into them but understandable given the challenges of covid and recruiting and keeping staff. I would definitely stay again!

I was visiting family and we went for lunch to the Russell Inn. Our server was good but our food was horrible. The restaurant wasn’t busy and we didn’t order anything difficult (sandwiches and chicken fingers and nachos) and it took almost an hour to get our food. The toast for the sandwiches was burnt and the bread was so dry it just crumbled apart when you tried to eat it. The vegetables that came with the chicken fingers (carrots and parsnips) weren’t cooked and were cold. Of note... the owner and another staff member came in after us and got their food and were done eating with plates cleared away before we even got our food.

We had three families stay at the Inn and spent the weekend at the hill. While we had a great time, I felt frustrated with the cost of our “ king suite”. I booked the ski and stay package, which actually ended up costing more than if we just booked it all separately. Our room was very small, outdated and the pull out couch bed was broken and incredibly uncomfortable ( more than the usual pull out couch). We were offered a cot and it was suggested we just sleep in the couch instead of pulling out the bed. They did say we could move rooms after our first night , but we wanted to get to the slopes so we didn’t choose that option.
Our one friend had a similar experience, and she moved rooms.
The hotel pool was fun for the kids and we made the best of things. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of options of where to stay , so the Inn monopolizes on that. They could use an update and if they choose not to, more reasonable room rates to reflect the quality of the stay. No breakfast or other perks are included.
We ate at the hotel restaurant for dinner and breakfast and both experiences were friendly, but with mediocre food.
Our weekend was still wonderful, but a costly weekend getaway.

This is basically the only hotel in Russell to stay at. It is way over priced in my opinion. The hotel could really use an update to get it into the 2000. The food prices in the lounge were way over priced. The room we were in is outdated and can seriously need some improvements. The total cost for the room was 183.68 for the night. Tried booking a room online with a king size bed and this wasnt possible. You had to call the hotel. This was one of the bright spots, speaking to a staff member while booking was great.
There was an item that we forgot to bring and when we asked if the front desk had it, they were less than willing to help. It was a USB cube that they had many of. They even suggested that we might not bring it back. For the rooms to not have a USB plug in at the room should tell you the upgrading they need.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We validate customer’s opinions and patience as we fight and claw our way out of the past three years during a worldwide pandemic! Our priority is to take care of our staff in a small rural area. What the pandemic has done has resulted in us working with reduced staff which has also affected our maintenance team. We can only maintain a room by room redecoration programe at a time. We are trying! We would not survive if we did not charge the competitive market rates. We are desperately trying to keep our property afloat. We try not to rent out rooms that have not been renovated but you must have stayed with us on one of our busy nights. Your rate was for one of our suites. I am sorry you didn’t get to experience one of our recently decorated regular rooms for a lower price. All these rooms have USB Chargers. As far as the charger goes we have lots of them. I shall take the blame for the staff member not responding to your need properly. I shall address this. Our philosophy and principals mean we do our upmost for customer care and to ensure you have everything you need. Thank you again for validating what we know. It made us wince but we have a survival spirit and we will give our beloved hotel the TLC she needs. We hope this shall be done before your next visit.

I took my children for lunch to the restaurant and was not happy. The kids meals are way over priced for what you get, not to mention their waffles we soggy and almost $8 for half a waffle, that was it. You had to pay almost 4 dollars for a small glass of milk/juice. Spent over $60 for one adult and 2 children. Service was mediocre, was not happy one bit.

Rooms advertised as 2 Queens, but were 2 Doubles. Went to the front desk to ask if we were placed in the wrong room and staff claimed these were "hotel queens" and that they may be smaller than an actual queen. This is complete BS, the mattress was literally a double. A queen is a queen. Room was tiny, brick walls, smelled bad, ancient, never seen an update and felt like a jail cell honestly. Our hockey team was supposed to have a block of rooms together and we were scattered all over the place. Extremely expensive as the owner as a monopoly in the town due to owning both the Jolly Lodger and Russell Inn. Will never stay in this dingy hell-hole again.

My first issue is that we had to book at least 2 nights regardless which was frustrating. Once in the room, when I tried to plug my charger in the plug just fell out of the outlet. I tried 4 different outlets and finally found one that would charge my phone. The water in the bathtub wouldn’t shut off and when we finally got it off the nob fell off. The walls were icky, smushed bugs in them and splatters. The coffee machine wouldn’t work. When we mentioned these to the front desk they comped $30 from our $400 dollar bill. Which in my opinion I could deal with all the above if the rooms were more like $130 a night and we didn’t HAVE to book for two nights. The front desk was nice and said they would have maintenance look at the room. All in all I felt it was over priced.
The pool area was nice and a good depth for young kids. And a small paddling pool for very young kids. It was nice having the common area so you could visit with friends and the kids could play without being stuffed into a small motel room.

Pulling up I was in love as I looked at this picturesque, quaint inn. On their website they say family is important and that’s evident in the amenities. A large water slide, kidney shaped pool and hot tub. Cleanliness is very evident in this area. There was a huge closed in deck with a fire pit and roasting roasting aticks. There was a small table surrounded by chairs where people could play games. The deck was covered in hanging canvas to give shade. There was a spa unfortunately we weren’t able to take advantage of as we arrived late and left early but looking through the window it seemed quite luxurious.
Our room was an average room. Two double beds, tv, coffee maker, mini fridge. The bathroom was clean. The water pressure wasn’t fabulous but it didn’t drip out either. The beds were clean and comfortable.
We will be coming back with a larger group of family with kids.
The restaurant reminded us of an old fashioned diner. Again the ambience was average but the food was amazing.
We went to the pub in the evening and it’s the only reason this review recieved 4/5.
It is the local bar so there were some very obnoxious drunks that turned the visit sour. However the f you’re into VLTs there’s at least 12.

Im not sure. I havent been in Winnipeg for a couple years to see them. It is a neat place to stay however the pool area as i said in my comments was a disappointment.
