(My husband wrote this review for our stay during Aug 2019) If you just want to read the information that tells you why I could not give this hotel five out of five, skip to the final paragraph. THE STAFF, ROOMS, AND FOOD ARE ALL FIVE STARS. However, Management is a 1 or 0. My wife and I stayed here for her first time coming to Haiti. So, I wanted to make sure she had an amazing time during her stay in a nation she never been to. The hotel and its staff itself would make you feel like you are truly appreciated during your stay. As my family and friends would say about me; is I like the finer things in life. Or in their exact words, I’m bougie. So, when I look for a place to spend my money, I always look for a certain level of comfort. This hotel and its staff blow my expectations out of the water effortlessly; no joke. Honesty I did not expect that level of service and attention to my wife and I there. But it was all there as if I was staying at a four- or five-star resort in Miami or Boca Raton. Truly, maybe even better. The waitress and kitchen staff catered to even our dietary request. Attentive from the moment they see us walking to the restaurant area. To even to start us for the next day meal service. There was a situation where we wanted something special for breakfast and they were willing to get everything ready the night before, to have it for us the next morning. This was not a service they offer, it as dietary thing and they were okay with it. The cleaning staff was just as great as the restaurant staff. When we come back to our room, it was always spot less. Another example for the level of service this hotel provides was: we requested to move from one room to the other. The reason was; our first room was the top-level room, at night you can hear things moving on the metal roof. I’m a light sleeper, so I requested to be move. They moved us to an equally value room compared to are first room. When we came back from our day out, everything and I mean everything was placed in the second room, exactly where it was placed in our first. Form everything in the bathroom, to the couple items on the coffee tablet and things on the bed side tables. Also, they hung and folded our clothing items as well. I mean, I never had that level of attention given to me during a resort stay anywhere. I moved rooms before and the most those places did was send a person to help move the bags, that all. The grounds for the hotel was maintain very well. The resort cleanliness could rival with the five-stars resorts of Miami. The beauty of it all is truly breath taking from the moment you see the water. The food took me back when I was a child and visiting Haiti. It reminded me of sitting at my grandmother table waiting to eat. I still can remember the joy and happiness my wife showed when eating the food there. I will add, the beach area is a bit rough. In the sense that the waves are strong an there is a lot of soft rocks to walk on. But once you get in the water and get pass the rough waves, you are in you own world and taking in all your surroundings. Finally, the only experience that drop my rating of are stay was cause of management. Management is what left a bad taste in our mouths. Management is misleading with their prices for stay and food. It started with when I tried to book the room online. If you go to their website, it said if you stay a weeklong you will get a 15% discount for your stay, when you get to the part for your payment info. I never got a confirmation email about it. I emailed the email provided and I never got a reply back from them. Lucky, I had family who lived close by and they went there to book it for me. When we checked in at the hotel, I brought up the situation about the online ordeal. They said they will investigate the online reservation. Additionally, for the breakfast they say it is included with your stay. You just will be paying for your lunch and dinner. The truth is for breakfast you are only allowed to get one plate, per person. So, if one-person was to have eggs and pancakes. You will be paying for one of those items. You can order off the menu or get something from the buffet. I asked them if I did not order something from the menu and went to the buffet and got two plates. Would I had been charged for the second plate or not. They said they would have charged me for the second plate. I learned this bit of information at check out. The charge is not the problem, its not being honest about the charges is my issue. When it came to us checking out. I am being charged for the extra bill for breakfast and the full rate for the room. Remember I said online and on their website, it said if someone stay a weeklong you get a discount. They said that they will not honor the discount. So, no discount and the extra amount from the food. They said the only thing that they can do is take 10% off the food bill. The room was $120/night. Not even close to what I was actually supposed to get from the 15% off the room rate. TIPS: Bring small change to tip the well deserved service staff, Bring water shoes the beach sand/gravel is rocky.…
The hotel is now called Sunset Cove Beach and is under new management. During our stay, some renovations were underway, and the rooms have recently been renovated. The staff is very friendly, welcoming and they work hard to make you feel comfortable. Food choices are limited in the restaurant, but good nonetheless.
We went to Dan's Creek for an anniversary lunch and a relaxing afternoon enjoying the beach and deck. We were four expat couples. We were there for lunch only, so can't speak for the rooms in the hotel. The lunch was good enough, although somewhat expensive for what we got. But when you consider they gave us free reign of the beach and facilities, it's decent value. There's a great place jump off into the sea and the beach is sloping and sandy. They have great bean bags to lounge on! The deck chairs are nice too. Lunch took over an hour to serve, but we all went swimming while we waited for our order; so we weren't bothered. Everybody's food tastes pretty good. Service was ok. The hotel needs some maintenance, but looks pretty good to stay for a night or two. Well worth it when you consider the beach and location. I'd definitely go back. In other places, I wouldn't give this four our of five, but since this is Haiti I will be more generous :-)…
We went to stay at this hotel for a couple of days prior to going to Deschappelle, Haiti to work at Albert Schweitzer Hospital. This was a lovely place, beautiful sea and very good food. My room was small but adequate and had a wonderful air-conditioner! We enjoyed the beach nearby and enjoyed nice dinners at this hotel. The lobster dinner was the best, as well as some of the fish and pork. Satisfied everyone. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. We also drove about an hour up the room to go into a cavern in a nearby town, that was beautiful but a long walk up the hill to get in.
We stayed at this hotel three years ago and it was much better. It seems to be going through a few growing pains. But the staff is doing an amazing job keeping visitors happy. We were there during new year's eve for a couple of nights. Everything went fairly well including the fireworks at midnight and the January 1st traditional buffet. There was a full house while we were there. So that added to the spirit of festivities. Food service was expensive. But very tasty and fresh. We still Hope to pay them another visit next time we are in the area.
