Know before you go
Nova Scotia combines the best of two worlds: It's a vibrant capital city and a quaint coastal town all wrapped up in one. The heart of the action takes place in Downtown Halifax. Historic hotels, charming inns, and modern boutique properties sit next to bars, breweries, cafes, restaurants, and the famous citadel. If you're after Halifax's young and artsy side, head to the North End, though lodging options are a bit limited in this neighborhood, despite the area's long lineup of bars, cafes, and indie shops. You could also consider the fantastic Halifax views and local vibes of up-and-coming Dartmouth across the water, where you'll find a few vacation rentals and chain hotels.
