Characterised by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighbourhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. - Laura C18 contributionsA city of the dead smack bang in a city of the livingWhat an amazing place - a city of the dead within a city of the living. We were lucky enough to visit on a local school’s Founders Day where a lovely and emotional mass was held with the students singing. Our guide was fabulous making it interesting, factual and with humour. Amazing what people will do to preserve memories after death. Loved all the stories. Absolutely do it - take much water as even on a cloudy day, you need itVisited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2024
- Ana Karina D53 contributionsIt is always nice to walk in Recoleta. It's always nice to walk in Recoleta! This time we just walked around without taking a tour. There are a lot of people on weekends and the fair on display distracts quite a bit from how important the place is. It is a very beautiful area that is worth knowing.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten May 16, 2024

- Maria Vilma GBello, Colombia5 contributionsThe Unmissable RetailThe guide is a person named José who takes his work with passion. For those of us who want to hear the story we value it very much. The place is important for what it has meant and really is an open-air museum. I learned a lot of interesting things from cemeteries.Visited January 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten January 5, 2025
- PavelHong Kong, China9 contributionsGem of Buenos Aires with cosy cafes and fantastic restaurantsAn absolute gem in Buenos Aires and South America as a whole. Amazing restaurants, fantastic Air Bnb’s, everywhere you look the apartment lobbies are super clean and tasteful with an overall very safe family environment. Big supermarket (Coto) and several nice gelato / alfajor cafes (Lucciano’s and Rapanui). A European city architecture but with South American hospitality and flair. For most good restaurants (El Burladero and La Roux) make sure you reserve about a day in advance. But be aware this is probably one of the more upscale and expensive areas for eating out and staying - totally worth it though. For alternatives also check out Palermo.Visited December 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 13, 2025

- Montserrat HotelsAs part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighbourhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.Read more

- Puerto Madero HotelsFrom its refurbished red brick buildings and port cranes to its modern skyscrapers and luxurious apartment buildings, Puerto Madero is the perfect combination of old and new. The river provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of heavy traffic just blocks away. Across the river, flanked by skyscrapers, are beautiful parks and quiet streets that make this neighbourhood a unique destination in a city as busy as Buenos Aires. The restaurants, bars, and nightclubs on the docks make it a prime spot for nights out and have come to symbolise this area. Puerto Madero is even more striking after dark, when the lights from the docks and skyscrapers glow against the night sky.Read more

- Retiro HotelsExquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighbourhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.Read more
