Nice has a cosmpolitan Riviera vibe, and you'll enjoy exploring its fashionable boutiques and restaurants and sunning yourself on its popular beaches. (Just don't expect soft sand—these beaches have pebbles.) This ski resort on the western edge of the Dolomite Mountains has a reputation for being family-oriented, and there’s truth in that. There are classes for children, and a couple of runs designed for those still wobbly on skis. The majority of the 19 slopes down the Doss del Sabion are for beginning or intermediate skiers, but there are a couple of more difficult runs. Adventure-seekers can also grab a seat on the Pinzolo-Campiglio Express gondola, which whisks you to the nearby resort of Madonna di Campiglio, where there are some off-piste areas.

You'll find Europe's best-preserved Gothic Quarter here, as well as amazing architectural works by Gaudi. La Sagrada Familia, considered Gaudi's masterpiece, is still under construction (your entrance fee helps to fund the project). Feel like a picnic? Look no further than the rambunctious La Boqueria market, where you can stock up on local delicacies.
