One of Puglia’s most picturesque enclaves, Ostuni is known as the White City thanks to its plenitude of white-washed houses. A quick trip from the coast, the city is also celebrated for its labyrinthine streets, cathedral, and ancient defensive walls.

Though dwarfed by nearby Naples, Caserta punches above its weight when it comes to world-class landmarks. Its roll call of sights include the colossal Royal Palace of Caserta, the Aqueduct of Vanvitelli, and San Leucio Complex; all three of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites.

An elegant resort town on the southern edge of Lake Garda, Sirmione has attracted vacation-goers for centuries. 13th-century Scaligero Castle and the Roman ruins of the Grotte di Catullo are top of the list for most visitors, as is swimming in the lake’s crystal-clear waters.

Amritsar is a major commercial and cultural centre in the heart of Punjab. The city is the spiritual and cultural centre of the Sikh religion and is home to the Harmandir Sahib, also known as the Golden Temple. Respectfully marvel at the Indian and Pakistani soldiers who march-off nightly at the Wagha Border, and at the Jallian Wala Bagh the site of the 1919 Amritsar Massacre in 1919.
