    Quaint, historic Gastown
We so enjoyed wandering through this historic part of Vancouver. The buildings are quaint and it's worth stopping at a number of fascinating "tourist" spots - the Steam Clock, Hudson House Trading Company, and Maple Tree Square. Water Street is picturesque with its ornate street lights and colourful floral hanging baskets. We felt totally safe as we browsed the area.

Rainy Day Made it Hard to Enjoy
It was a very cold, wet, rainy December day when we were in Gastown. We saw the steam clock and heard it sing(once an hour), We walked the street with the shops and restaurants. There are quite a few pubs and place to eat in Gastown. There are souvenir shops with Canadian items and also nice shops with sportswear for cold weather. It has a European feel to it with the street lamps and cobble stone walkways. Wish the weather would have been better, I was hiding under an umbrella for most of the time we were there.

Great performance by the steam clock
As it was raining cats and dogs our trip round Gastown could have been better. Nevertheless it was interesting to see some of the older parts of the city and the steam clock performed well. Perhaps I'll go back when its not raining!

    Nothing special
Nothing special there. Some good touristy gift shops and the clock is worth a visit. Nothing of particular note architecturally. Nearby streets have hordes of homeless openly drug taking

    Gastown worth the stop
Gastown was great. We took the hop on/hop off bus so it was easy. We ate lunch outside at Parallel 49, which was perfect. We strolled down to Canada Place & watched the seaplanes come in before experiencing Flyover Canada (the canadian Rockies). Fantastic - hightly recommend!

Great place to spend an hour or two and have a meal
This area has a good vibe about it, great place to have a wander around and soak it in. The steam clock is the advertised attraction, but don't get too excited about that, it is OK and novel, but not riveting. There is a good choice of places to eat, make sure that you go right to the end to make sure that you do not miss any options.

Not as bad as we thought it would be.
We were hesitant because of all the bad reviews, but decided to give it a try. This is what we did: We got on the metro - Expo Line. We got off at the waterfront station. We arrive around 10:30 am. We took a left and walked to water street where Gastown starts.(4 min walk). We walked to the steam clock and then to the flatiron building by the Gastown sign. We saw a few addicts there, some with drugs in hand and more as we worked our way down the street. We did not feel unsafe in that portion of Gastown. We turned around at the flatiron bldg and walked back up Water St. We were able to see the historic area, shop and grab a bite to eat! There were beautiful old buildings, trees and cobblestone streets. We’re glad we checked it out!
