- JosiCSaintSao Paulo, SP6 contributionsPanoramic view of the city and a beautiful parkA beautiful view of the entire city. I went when the foliage changed colors, which gave it even greater charm. In the church there is a small shop where you can buy some souvenirs. There is parking near the oratory, but access is also easy by public transport. It's worth the visit and makes for beautiful photos.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten February 11, 2024
- Dale SNewmarket, Canada29 contributionsPeaceful, inspiring and beautifulThis was my first time visiting Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount Royal and we were in awe of the immensity of the building, its' timeless history and pristine architecture. And, the views at the top were splendid. It is a large and impressive shrine dedicated to St. Joseph and founded by Saint Brother Andre with so much to see and learn. We found the Basilica and Crypt to be incredible with ample opportunity to light votive candles in quiet surroundings. It is a place of great faith, peacefulness and faith.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 28, 2024
- Christina BLouisiana6,964 contributionsVisited while on a TourMassive in size is an understatement. So many levels to see. We were able to see a number of areas. The church, the statues, the history, the hall of candles for pray.. the tomb. The inner rock wall as well as the original church. Glad we had a chance to visit here. Beautiful place and worth a visit if you are visiting Montreal.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 13, 2024
- IAN DWigan, United Kingdom26,552 contributionsLargest church in CanadaThis Oratory is gigantic, the crypt is bigger than many churches i have visited. This is the only church i have been in with escalators to reach the main chapel. It is a very calming place and so much to see. We loved the windows and also the outside viewing platform. A must when visiting MontrealVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 14, 2024
- Wilma ANorthern California, California65 contributionsAmazing beauty and great experienceI am glad i was able to see this place. It's amazingly beautiful and a great experience. Facing the building entrance view, left side of the church is the "Station of the Cross Garden".” the balcony leading from the main church entrance is quite a beautiful view on Montreal. Also, has a historical museum of Brother Adrea Bessett and the St Joseph Oratory.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 21, 2024
- YLNSRio de Janeiro, RJ53 contributionsBeautiful church, beautiful viewIt's curious with the church is supertraditional on the outside and super modern on the inside (and both options are beautiful.) Very interesting is the story of brother Andrew, canonized in 2010, who was connected to the basilica (including his tomb can be visited there). The view of the city from the site is also worth it, as the church is on top of a hill. Accessibility is great, there is a free shuttle that takes you to the top of the hill and inside the basilica there are stairs and elevators. The local shop is also great.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten June 28, 2024
- ujvalaChicago, Illinois5 contributionsLots of steps to climb for a fantastic view of MontrealThis place is not on the regular bus tour itineraries of Montreal city but it is worth taking the time for a separate visit on one’s own. It’s fairly easy to get to by bus from downtown Montreal. Lots of steps to climb - but you’re treated to a fantastic view of Montreal at the top.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 6, 2024
- Lisa BBedford, New Hampshire44 contributionsA really nice experience! There were soooooo many steps to reach the top, but it was a fun experience and absolutely worth it. The view was fantastic. The inside of the church was gorgeous, but it might have been helpful to have a guide book or app to explain what we were seeing. We did appreciate the fact that we were allowed to walk around and explore. Thank you for a lovely experience!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 6, 2024
- Jane PChicago, Illinois20 contributionsPlan enough time to see this site and visit on a sunny dayA must see site on the outskirts of Montreal. The place is huge and allows you to see every aspect of the inside. Be ready to spend at least an hour to take it all in. Would suggest taking the Metro - an easy walk there via many signs gets you warmed up to hike up all the stairs. And it’s free!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 13, 2024
- phvi2617Anaheim, California723 contributionsMonumental and sacredThis is the largest church in Canada, and it's notable in that the exterior was built in a renaissance style while the interior is Art Deco. Although the inside is a bit austere, its monumental scale is still very impressive. I was fortunate to hear a terrific concert on the basilica organ while I was there. The oratory has an interesting history, and there are several sacred places related to its founder, St. Andre Bessette, including his tomb, the original chapel, and the beautiful votive chapel. There is also a museum, but it's only open until 4:30 PM. A must-visit for all interested in the faith.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten July 16, 2024
