We visited St Andrews as a couple and fancied a slightly different activity to our history and golf heavy weekend. The aquarium was a lovely change of pace and it's always fascinating to see all of the different species that we only get to experience with the help of aquariums. I would say this aquarium, as many are, is largely geared towards children and families. The meerkats are super cute and you get to see them quite close up! We are far from animal experts but it did make us a little sad to see how little room a lot of the bigger species had in their tanks. The aquarium is quite small; even with reading all of the exhibit information and viewing the shark feeding, we were out within an hour. In light of this, we found the entry to be quite expensive. We appreciate this is a family run business and the keeping of these animals must cost quite a bit, so didn't grudge the price too much in the end. Our biggest disappointment was the huge orange octopus on the aquariums signs without there actually being a real octopus in the building! It's quite possible we missed it but after reading a really popular fiction book about an octopus, I was very excited at the possibility of seeing one in person.

We visited this lovely family run aquarium today. As locals we have an annual pass and visit regularly. Myself and my two children continue to be impressed with the evolving exhibitions. The new brittle star exhibit is incredible. Has to be one of our new favourites. My son also loves the crocodiles and my daughter the octopus. Fantastic day out plus the location is great for enjoying the beach visiting the town of St Andrews and being able to pop back in for talks/ feedings or take a second look.

Aquarium is a bit of a misnomer as there's a surprising amount of non-aquatic animals to see like the Meerkats. Not the biggest aquarium in the world but still plenty to see and if you timed your visit in with the feeding schedule I would think you could spend 2-3 hours there. We were there an hour and that didn't feel rushed. No seals or Marmosets (again with the non aquatic species) when we were there due to the aftermath of the storm but still an enjoyable visit.

I’ve been here about 6 times now courtesy of TCCL, a local charity for kids suffering from cancer and their families. Absolutely wonderful that St Andrews Aquarium gives family admissions passes to TCCL lodge, it makes the respite a little more enjoyable! Now that I’m a student here, I’m considering buying the annual pass so I can go and visit as much as I’d like. The variety of sea life is very cool and there are plenty of frogs too which are my personal favourite. The tanks are all massive and stocked with some very interesting critters. Plenty of reptiles too, if you’re interested in them. There’s also a room with insects, some monkeys, meerkats, and a whole bunch of other stuff to see too. The emphasis on some of the larger animals being rescues is also nice. Overall it’s definitely worth a visit!

We loved our visit here. It’s a small aquarium but plenty to see. We had booked the Meerkat feeding experience for our daughter and this was well worth the extra expense. The staff member who did this with her (Fin) was excellent. He was so patient, reassuring and encouraging, answering the million and one questions that she had. He really made the experience for her. Thank you! We will definitely visit here again when we come back to St Andrews.
Wow, what a lovely review. We'll make sure to pass it onto our team who love hearing our guests comments. The meerkat feeding experience is amazing and we're delighted that your daughter loved it...Fin is amazing, he'll love that your daughter had a great time. Looking forward to welcoming you all back soon

Really lovely aquarium with a great mix of fish, reptiles, amphibs and mammals marine and non. Lovely looking enclosures, and the fish are so bright and gorgeous. Staff very knowledgeable and everything looks well cared for. Gift shop well stocked, its tucked out the way and you could probably get round it a few hours if you take your time. Highly recommend for children and adults alike.

We visited our daughter at St Andrews University and made a stop at the aquarium. This is a lovely little place. Very well presented fish (& other animals) in a nice location close to the sea. Well worth the visit. Having said that, it is small, so we were finished in an hour.

Lovely little place, with lots of interesting creatures! Our favourites were the meerkats and jellyfish. We managed to see the penguin and meerkat talk which was very informative and the keepers were happy to answer our questions. Would definitely visit again!

Lovely wee aquarium! The animals all look very happy and well looked after, when we went we were even lucky enough to see a keeper doing some training with the marmosets which was fantastic to see. We also managed to catch the last talks of the day which was really interesting and the keepers seemed really knowledgeable about the animals. Loads to see/read about, was a great trip out!
Thank you very much. Our team love doing the talks, and answering loads of questions. Hope to welcome you back soon

  • St Andrews Cathedral Hotels
Please be aware there are a number of access restrictions in place at the cathedral at the moment. We know that this will be disappointing for visitors, but we are maintaining access where we can. Due to essential maintenance, St Rule's Tower is currently closed (anticipated reopening spring 2024). Sections of the graveyard are fenced off due to unstable gravestones. The remains of St Andrews Cathedral, which was Scotland’s largest cathedral and most magnificent church, show how impressive it used to be. The museum houses an outstanding collection of early and later medieval sculptures and other relics found on the site, including the magnificent St Andrews Sarcophagus of Pictish date. The precinct walls are particularly well preserved. St Rule's Tower, in the precinct, is part of the first church of the Augustinian canons at St Andrews built in the early 12th century. There are splendid views from the top.

  • St Andrews Castle Hotels
St Andrews Castle is the ruins of the castle of the Archbishops of St Andrews, dating in part from the 13th century. On a headland to the north of St Andrews stand the ruins of the city's castle, the main residence of the bishops and archbishops of St Andrews and the focal point of the church in medieval Scotland. Explore the underground 16th-century siege mine and counter-mine, and the 'bottle dungeon', one of the most infamous castle prisons in medieval Britain, which was cut out of the solid rock. John Knox and George Wishart may have been imprisoned in this dank and airless space, and this is where its believed Cardinal Beaton’s body was kept when he was murdered in 1546.
