The Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre or simply Sacre-Coeur as it is known to most people is a lovely 19th century church built on the hill of Montmartre. The church is free to enter though you should take note that you may have to wait in line for 20-30 minutes or even longer at busy times. The interiors of the church are beautiful but we were just as impressed by the magnificent views of Paris from Montmartre hill. If you're interested in seeing the city from the top of the basilica, you can buy a ticket for the dome tour but bear in mind that there's 300 steps to the top of the church. We didn't end up taking the tour as we found the views from the hill itself sufficient.

Anyone who visits Paris cannot miss going up to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, from which you can see an extraordinary panorama, especially at sunrise and sunset. Always a very popular place, you can access it from the stairs or with the convenient rack funicular, which you can take using metro tickets. The interior of the basilica is also interesting, where you can climb (for a fee) into the dome, with a tortuous staircase of 300 steps.

Indispensable visit, without a doubt and I recommend coinciding with the sunset, one of the best views of Paris and after sunset you will see the Eiffel Tower illuminated. The surroundings and the neighborhood of the artists is ideal, it is not only the views of Paris, the basilica and its surroundings, it is worth going through Paris and walking through this neighborhood visit its recesses full of art and finish in the famous Moulin Rouge....pleasant walk to go without haste, in between you can visit the cafeteria and fruit shop of the movie Amelie, museums, pastry shops, the square of the artists.... A great memory for your eyes!!

Not our first visit to the Sacre-Coeur but this time we were staying in Montmartre so could easily walk up from out hotel. It was a gloriously sunny and warm day too, which had clearly brought everyone out as although it was busy, you can get in really easily, being free. The church itself is very imposing because it's right on the hill there, gleaming in white. Inside is suitably hushed but you can be forgiven for thinking it's an old building when infact it was completed just 110 years ago. There is an additional viewing area in the church dome which is about €8 entry on the way out. It's definitely worth a visit and the views on the hill are amazing. There's also so much to explore in the streets around the church. We love Montmartre anyway but this is the focal point of the whole area.

Visiting Sacre-Cœur was an incredible experience—the basilica itself is breathtaking, with its gleaming white domes standing tall over Montmartre. The architecture, intricate details, and serene interior make it one of the most beautiful churches in Paris. That said, it was VERY crowded, especially on a nice day. The stairs and plaza were packed with people, and while the views over Paris were spectacular, finding a quiet moment was tough. Despite the crowds, it’s worth visiting—just be prepared for long lines, street performers, and lots of tourists. If you want a quieter experience, arriving early in the morning or later in the evening might be the best bet.

Splendid Basilica to visit next to its Montmartre neighborhood. The views of Paris are splendid, we had the opportunity to be at sunset and crowded to watch the sun go down. The visit inside the Basilica is mandatory as is the walk through the streets and small squares of Montmartre

Montmartre is a must-see in Paris, but maybe not in a windy rainstorm. Panoramic views were not to be enjoyed this time, due to the weather. After waiting about 15 minutes under our umbrella we were treated to the beautiful mosaics and archways that adorn the Basilque du Sacre Coeur. Of particular interest, also, was the dedication plaque (offered also in English). As this imposing hill had been the scene for years of battles won and lost, the dedication was as an atonement and commitment “to make honorable amends for our sins.”

A must-see in Paris. The visit is free and the viewpoint beautiful. I advise you to go in the morning / on a day when the weather is "mixed". There should indeed be a few fewer people and also fewer "unofficial" sellers trying to sell you qqch (I hate that). For the tired, you have a small funicular (fee) that works with the same tickets as the metro. Alternatively, you can walk to the basilica

The Basilica of Sacré-Cœur in Paris impressed us with its imposing appearance and exceptional location on Montmartre Hill. Even the way up offers a taste of what awaits us: a breathtaking view over the city. The white façade of the basilica is a real eye-catcher, especially in sunshine, when it seems to shine. The interior impresses with its calm, spiritual atmosphere and the magnificent mosaic in the apse, which is one of the largest in the world. We found the contrast between the busy city and the silence inside particularly impressive. The square in front of the basilica invites you to linger. From there you have one of the best panoramic views over Paris – a highlight that is especially memorable at sunset. The Montmartre district around Sacré-Cœur also impressed us with its artistic charm and small cafés. What we liked is the combination of history, architecture and spirituality. The basilica does not seem cluttered, but exudes a simple elegance that appeals to both believers and visitors. A place we would definitely recommend to any Paris traveler.

Sept 2024 • Couples While staying in Paris we visited the Sacre-Coeur de Montmartre We walked up the steps and there are quite a few so you may want to take the funicular railway at the side .but that had many people waiting . The Basilique is really beautiful and very large with many beautiful stained glass windows and statues and lots of lit candles which you can buy and light yourself . We didn’t have to queue for very long and got some lovely pics of the view as it was a reasonable day at the beginning of October. There is free entry but machines are inside for donations .
