We spent a handful of nights in Nuremberg this past December and enjoyed visiting a handful of churches around the city including St. Lorenz located along Konigstrasse at Lorenzerplatz. The church is open from 9am to 5.30pm (Mon to Sat) and 1pm to 3.30pm (Sun). Entry is free but there is a suggested donation of €2 per person. It is a fine church worth 20-30 minutes to walk around and enjoy. St. Lawrence was mostly constructed during the 14th and 15th centuries and is a fine example of Gothic architecture. Originally a Roman Catholic Church, St. Lawrence converted to Lutheran around 1525. Interestingly, many of the earlier church treasures were spared during the Reformation Period, thus we find the interior rich with fine chapels, altarpieces, sculptures and artworks. The hanging 'Angelic Salutation' by Veit Stoss (1518) and the delicately carved sandstone Tabernacle by Adam Kraft (1496) near the front of pillar of the choir is remarkable. The church also possesses the largest church organ in Germany. The exterior of St. Lawrence is impressive as well. The facade features a niche portal, rose window and two bell towers, mirroring St. Sebald Church on the other side of the River Pegnitz. At times of the day, you will hear the bells of St. Lorenz playing if you are on the nearby streets outside the church. A quick walk around St. Lorenzplatz on the sides allows you to view the main body as well as a couple of fountain monuments placed around St. Lorenz.

Very beautiful church. Lovely art. Gothic excellence. Lovely sculptures: I loved the angels located everywhere in the church and the 3D retables, the faces of the Saints, in contrast with the harsh severity of walls and floor. I got into this church almost by chance, and was extremely glad as I would have otherwise missed something precious.

This is the largest church in Nuremberg and is a twin-towered 14th-century Gothic church. The church is filled with many works of art which have been donated by the richer classes over centuries. Be sure to see the unique three-part organ boasting over 12,000 pipes, which is said to be one of the largest such instruments in the world.

Church symbol of the city of Nuremberg. Stunning example of Romanesque Gothic. Full of ideas and wonderful works such as the frame suspended on the wooden altar and the side altars. To see and discover in every detail

  • Nuremberg Palace of Justice Hotels
World history was written in the courtroom of the Nuremberg Palace of Justice. This is where leaders of the Nazi regime had to answer for their crimes before an international tribunal between November 20, 1945, and October 1, 1946. The trials had an enormous influence on the development of international criminal law right up to the present. Courtroom 600 remains a working courtroom to this day. The Nuremberg Trials Memorial ("Memorium Nürnberger Prozesse") is an information and documentation center located on the top floor of the Courthouse. In approximately 700 square meters of space, it provides insights about the defendants and their crimes, the Nuremberg Follow-Up Trials of 1946–49, and the impact of the Nuremberg Trials up to the present.
