The cathedral itself is fabulous, grandiose, any epithet I say falls short, but the management of the monument could improve. First of all, the schedule. Only until 6:30 p.m., and they let you in until 6:00 p.m., when if you go to the ticket office they tell you that they won't give you time if you arrive with less than an hour because it takes an hour to see. I think that the hours, as in other cathedrals such as Segovía, should be extended to encourage more visits. Secondly, the price, 12 euros is three times the price of the one in SEgovia, which apart from having longer hours, is much better managed. Third, they do not offer guided tours, they leave it directly to the local tour guides. They only told me that there was an audio guide on the Internet, they didn't even offer it directly, at least it's free. Fourth, you cannot access the tower, although, from what I found out, you could climb it until before the pandemic. After 4 years, it is not clear why it cannot be visited. Without going into comparisons, in Segovia there is an independent guided tour that is wonderful, to visit the different rooms up to the top, including the bell ringer's house and the area of the bells. In short, expensive price, reduced hours, reduced visit, without official guide or audio guide and without guided tour, without being able to access the tower. Well managed, they could ensure that there were more people who could enjoy it and get to know it better.

Toledo Cathedral is one of the most impressive cathedrals I have ever seen. From the moment you enter, you are amazed by the greatness of its architecture and detail in every corner. The stained glass windows, the altars, the frescoes, everything is a work of art. I was particularly surprised by the sacristy, which looked more like a museum than a part of the cathedral, with paintings by El Greco and other great masters. It is a place that transports you to another time, and simply walking through its corridors is an experience that you cannot miss if you visit Toledo. I recommend spending time and using the audio guide so you don’t miss any details.

That the Cathedral of Santa Maria in Toledo is a masterpiece is not something I have to say. For me they speak the centuries of history that this splendid Cathedral carries on its shoulders. Inside the gigantic building you will find masterpieces by El Greco, Raphael Sanzio, Caravaggio, Titian. And the church itself is nothing short of splendid, with "the transparent" on its head (really really suggestive). The Cathedral is about 25 minutes walk from the train station (then it always depends on what step you go...). With the heat of August it can be a bit challenging, but the trip from Madrid (about an hour by train) is absolutely worth the time and the ticket price (about 11 euros each way, if you do round trip).

If you like cathedrals - you must visit it: after seeing it I believe what I had read in the guidebooks that "it is the best Gothic cathedral in Spain". The huge altarpiece is a madness of gold craftsmanship, and some of the smaller chapels are a very interesting style. I did not go down to the crypt: the dead bodies of people unknown to me don't interest me, sorry. If you like paintings - you also must visit it, because the Sacristy has a few dozen paintings by some of the biggest artists (Some experts even call it "Mini-Prado"). The "St. Joseph with a boy Jesus" by El Greco is now one of my favorites, because I have never seen a painting with them where they would be just like regular (human!) father and son - truly moving. But if you don't really like cathedrals - you might want to skip it: you cannot see it in 20 min, but the family of 4 will have to pay around $60 euros (that's why I took off one star in the rating: I am not sure the churches should charge people for the entrance at all).

Toledo Cathedral has to be on the list of the most beautiful churches I have ever visited - and nothing prepared us for the beauty that awaited us inside this truly immense cathedral. Entrance costs 12 EUR and it's well worth it; you will spend at least 2 hours to see everything well. The church itself with its height of almost 45 meters and its gigantic dimensions of 120 meters by 59 meters on the ground takes your breath away as you enter. In a Gothic style which changes a little in this city so steeped in the Mudejar style, it well deserves its name on the UNESCO list. Apart from the church itself you can also visit the cloister, the sacristy, and all the magnificent chapels, some of which are as large as a village church. In the sacristy there are paintings by Caravaggio, El Greco, Titian, van Dyck, Goya and many others - a real art museum in addition. The exterior is just as splendid - on the side of the Door of Forgiveness we find the Last Supper carved below the imposing entrance door. An unmissable visit that you should not forget to do and take your time!

It is the second largest Cathedral in Spain, behind that of Seville, although it may not seem like it from the outside, especially if one limits oneself to the Main Facade. It is more spectacular inside than outside. The entrance fee is somewhat expensive and you never know where this money goes, because after everything they raise for restorations, they don't put a penny into this and all of them. You pay almost the same as with the bracelet in which public management is evident, given that it is a gift compared to other cities and especially in a World Heritage city. I have to say that at Amiens Cathedral they have a spectacular free light show, and totally FREE. It is not something new, in Europe I have seen it in several Cathedrals. Paganini here. In any case, once in Toledo, you cannot go without seeing the Cathedral if you have even the slightest interest in art and culture. The Chapter House is excellently preserved. It is a jewel. I spent quite some time inside, it deserves a leisurely visit.

When you come to Toledo, this visit is imperative. Sculptures, stained glass windows, paintings, everything is splendid. It’s a shame that the entrance fee (€12) is not included in the price of the package that was taken to Toledo to visit several historic places in the city.

You might wonder if you should see another Gothic cathedral. You all know one - it certainly doesn't apply here. Toledo Cathedral stands out. The several meters high monstrance alone is worth a visit. An audio guide or guided tour is necessary to understand the variety of impressive artworks. Whether choir stalls, main altar or side altars , dome or window, Spanish organ etc. everything is even more magnificent and beautiful than in other Spanish cathedrals. The sacristy with pictures of El Greco, among others, are especially worth seeing. Admission is worth it. Arrive as early as possible if there are not yet so many visitors in the church.

The visit to the Gothic Cathedral of Toledo is essential. Tickets are 12 € and can be purchased in advance through the website or in the cathedral shop in front of the cathedral entrance door (opens promptly at 10 am). We have used the audio guide, but you have to keep in mind that you use the data of your mobile. Anyway, it's an option unless you hire a private service.

There was just so many beautiful and ornate features, both inside and outside the cathedral, that we spent a lot more time than originally planned to take it all in. The retablo was a stunning work about Christ and the Virgin Mary. Behind it was El Transparente another amazing and intricate artwork that was illuminated by a dedicated skylight. Every bit of wood in the choir was carved or sculpted. There were many small and large chapels throughout the cathedral of which the Capilla de Reyes Nuevo and San Ildefonso stood out. The Chapter House was room that showcased its intricate Mudejar ceiling while the paintings of all of Toledo’s archbishops, which they looked very similar in appearance, circled the room. The well secured monstrance was a golden delight to admire and would also be quite a site to see when it gets paraded around the city. The sacristy contained many paintings from the most famous Spanish artists like El Greco’s Disrobing of Christ, Goya and Velasquez.
