A Museum Lovers Paradise in Madrid
A museum lovers paradise. Not as crowded as the Prado Museum and just as good. Lots of recognizable artists and paintings to wow the visitor. If you take the Hop on Hop Off bus one of the stops is the Prado and the Thyssen is steps away. Definitely worth a visit if the brush strokes of the great masters intrigues you.

    Incredible collection of art
We did a guided tour of the Thyssen museum with Fun and Tickets Tour Operator. Highly recommend a guided tour for a more in-depth view and interesting stories about some of the works of art. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. This museum is a gem: the Baron "loaned" part of his personal collection to Spain for 10 years mostly due to his Spanish wife. To be able to see these private works is quite unusual and important. His collection spans from religious art, to European Masters to pop and modern art. There is currently a Lucian Freud exhibit for the brave. A must see while in Madrid
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed!

    Visit on a Monday
It’s free to visit on a Monday 12-4pm. Which is good. It’s an Art gallery, as opposed to a museum. Lots of art from so many different artists. Ranging from the very modern 2000 to the very old 1300, so there’s something for everyone. I’m glad we went on the free day!
We are glad you enjoyed. Thank you. The free access hours are Monday from 12 to 16h. It can only be visited permanent collection and if there is the exhibition of plant -1, of TBA21, also that exhibition. Access is free and without entry. A lot of bang for your buck!
For 13 euros per adult and free for under 18s we thought this was an incredible museum. Van Gogh, Munch, Kandinsky, Mondrian...and many more, plus the temporary exhibition. We were here about 2 hours and bits of that we whizzed through. There's a nice shop and the place felt airy and well curated. We ate in the restaurant and had coffee and sandwiches which were reasonably priced. Well worth the money.

    The audioguide upgrades the experience!
What an experience! The collection is so complete that all great masters are presented. Get an audioguide, it will upgrade the whole experience, and don't miss any collections, there are big surprises in every room. I used the Paseo del Arte, which did not give any advantage like skip-the-line but it was not so crowded as Prado. I also had lunch in the restaurant where the menu del dia costed 21€, while in the city it ranges at 12-16€. Was it worth? Well, I was hungry.. after 4 and a half hours wandering in the museum. Photos are allowed without flash.
We are glad you enjoyed your visit. To keep up to date with our activities, follow us at @museothyssen. Thanks for the feedback on our audioguide service and the restaurant, we will pass it on to the responsible area.

One of the best musea we have seen in a life time (together with the Prado)
This museum is something you just can't miss. Even if you are not that much in art, it is just an experience to see the quality of this art selection. Very well presented. We spent half a day were totally overwhelmed, so we had to stop. Most likely we have seen half of it.

    Woman Masters exhibit!
The temporary exhibition on “Woman Masters” is open at the time of this writing, and is worth the price of admission, even if you see nothing else of the permanent collection. Reservations are required for the special exhibit (and they do fill up). Recommend getting the 5€ audioguide to deepen the experience. Note that I do not speak Spanish, so perhaps some of the nuance is cultural or lost in translation. However, worth noting that not all of the language used in the English written and spoken descriptions aligns with what I would consider affirming. However, the collection itself is really excellent.

Truly A Rich, Diverse, and EXCELLENT Collection of European Art - Well Worth a Visit
It’s hard to improve on all the 5 ratings Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza received except to say I agree. And YES, the museo is less crowded and better layed out than the Prado, and because I can take photos of my favorite works, I have BETTER memories of the museum and collection. There is no need to buy an overpriced book of the collection, like you have to at the Prado, because you can decide which works of art are important to you and take a snapshot for memory and reflection. I really loved the overall variety of paintings covering some 800 years of European art. There was, surprisingly, a great and diverse collection of US American art. I’ve included photos of some of my favorite pieces. Thanks of a relaxing and enjoyable journey through such a memorable collection!!!!

A rich collection of artwork at the Thyssen
My wife and I visited the Thyssen Museum during a trip to Madrid this past March. I thought the Thyssen was just as good as the Prado. In fact, I enjoyed much of the artwork more in the Thyssen. Although Prado has the bigger reputation, I prefer Thyssen more if I had only one that I could attend.

    Don’t Miss This!
I love impressionist paintings, so with limited time in Madrid I decided on this museum rather than the Prado. I do not regret it. I had never heard of the Thyssen-Bornemiszma before planning this trip. It has a phenomenal Women Masters exhibit right now (think Cassatt, Kahlo) and a Picasso exhibit (I historically have had trouble understanding Picasso’s work, but this exhibit did the best job I have seen of explaining his pieces). And the regular collection is unreal! If you enjoy any of Monet, Van Gogh, Degas, Pissarro, Sisley, Gaugin, Rodin, O’Keefe…there’s something here for you. And it was not overly crowded; you can actually enjoy the experience and see the art up close. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your feedback, we are glad you enjoyed!
