- MidwestKathMDetroit, Michigan1,142 contributionsWe stayed in Trastevere recently. It was our first time exploring this Roman neighborhood, which we chose to stay in so that we could visit some nearby sites and experience a real Rome neighborhood. From the moment we stepped into Piazza Trilussa, filled with people enjoying a busking musician, until we departed 4 days later, we enjoyed walking about Trastevere. The Vicolo del Cinque is lined with restaurants that are quite busy in the late afternoon through the evening. It's quite a scene! Within the neighborhood, we visited such sites as Villa Farnesina, Janiculum Hill, and the Basilica Santa Maria. We walked through Piazza Santa Maria and down the Via della Scala and other nearby streets for some shopping and restaurants and gelato. Really enjoyable place to visit!!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 24, 2024
- Gabriel MSantiago, Chile305 contributionsIt is a neighborhood of small streets, like in Rome, but with fewer people, a little more concern for details and a more human scale. With some time, visit Santa Cecilia, and walk through its streets and enjoy good food and drink in a bar or restaurant, with attention to details. It is a great area in which I recommend investing several hours and surely eating and sharing something.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten May 31, 2024
- PlanetTrottingParrottCambridge, United Kingdom276 contributionsWhen Rome tourist spots are stifling you, head over the river to trastevera to take a load off, enjoy music, great food and drinks in a bohemian vibe. The square hosts buskers when the weather is good but you need to be there early as it ends at 8pm but you can dance on the streets as sun sets then head to one of the many bars nearby. Aperol spritz is the local favourite and you can get 3ltr glass, yes 3litr! For €35. Eat great pasta and pizza for around €12 a person. You’ll find lots of young hipsters and influencers in this area and even the graffiti covers alleys have a romance about them. Pantheon is about 15 minute walk away over the river and St Peter’s square will take you around a 30 min scenic strollVisited October 2024Travelled with friendsWritten October 7, 2024
- Xamot TomaxFort Wayne, Indiana7,514 contributionsEach time we visit this city, we always spend some time wandering through Rome’s older neighborhoods. We cross the Tiber River and away we go. You immediately notice a difference once you’re there. It’s like stepping back in time. We try to find new restaurants with each visit. The smaller cafes and restaurants seem to have more of intimate vibe. You don’t feel overcrowded like you would feel near the tourist attraction areas of the city. Even if their was a language barrier, w we e’d often feel right at home by the hospitality of the staff.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 11, 2024
- EdolBrussels, Belgium39 contributionsFirst of all, this restaurant radiates uniqueness in a well-known hip neighborhood. We were also kindly served by a nice waiter who didn't force anything on us, atypical for an Italian, I would say. Nothing but praise for the food. We ventured into regional dishes. They were very tasty. The wines they recommended were also top notch. Tasty, tasty, friendly, authentic. I will definitely come back!Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 6, 2024
- BradHong Kong, China182,476 contributionsThis is the Rione on the west side of the Tiber and south of Vatican City. It is a considerably more laid back neighbourhood compared to the city centre of Rome on the eastern side of the river. You will find hotels, some shopping, great little local restaurants, pizzerias and gelaterias as well as charming streets lined with historic churches, palace buildings and villas all which can be experienced with far fewer fellow tourists in a place in Rome. It is much more relaxed and slower pace of life in Trastevere.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten May 7, 2024
- MFaroItaly2,929 contributionsThe Trastevere neighborhood emits a lot of that light-hearted spirit that Rome has. There are various points of interest inside and the food is generally very good. However, I suggest booking especially if you want to eat at certain times. Final advice: Trastevere is to be experienced calmly on foot, immersing yourself in the narrow streets, don't go there in a hurry, it wouldn't be worth it.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 9, 2024
- 6Marga DO🇪🇸✈️⛵🌼🍁Costa del Sol, Spain4,604 contributionsMany years ago I visited Trastevere on a visit to Rome. Then it was recommended to dine in "The Cistern", nowadays closed. So the cell phones had no location and we couldn't find it. I remember people had obviously... You couldn't walk the streets today. It is a neighborhood that you have to know almost "obligatorily" if you come to Rome. Its streets and buildings are very old and as in the whole city, you walk through history. It has a special essence and charm. When you sit on the terrace of one of its many restaurants you think you have gone back decades, it is something very peculiar.Visited November 2024Travelled with familyWritten November 1, 2024
- Søren Steen And... A35 contributionsProbably the coolest place to stay and stay in Rome! Super cute, narrow and dense streets, streets and squares all over this old and unpretentious neighborhood. Restaurants and bars on every street corner and between them - with good food at reasonable prices. Many come here and there are people everywhere, but a nice, relaxed atmosphere all the time. The neighborhood is where the Tiberius strikes and then you are quite exactly right between St. Peter's Church / Vatican on one side and Colosseum / Forum Romanum on the other. Approx. 20 minutes walk for each. Great place that doesn't drop the roof in the next many years. Pretty hot here on the edge for August, though. Trastevere is fantasticco!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 23, 2024
- Placey3333 contributionsBeautiful area, extremely lively, cheerful, lively. A beautiful golden church (Santa Maria de Trastevere). A multitude of terraces and a range of dining options of varying quality (from best to worst) for all scholarships in an “Italian” atmosphere. If you live there, plan VERY effective earplugs.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten October 15, 2024
