- joedsyBangor, United Kingdom287 contributionsStunning viewsThis sculpture is beautiful and much bigger than I thought, it’s huge. A lovely walk along the front of the bay, watching the whales as we went there that were just off shore. I’d say 20 minutes enough time to visit and get photos. A must see in ReykjavikVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 13, 2024
- Mark KUnited Kingdom33 contributionsCreating memories. It’s a sculpture. In Iceland. Guaranteed to be dramatic. Worth a visit whilst touring the city. Great walk in winter or summer, but wrap up warm in the winter, that arctic sea wind is cutting!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 17, 2024
- George VCrouch End, United Kingdom10 contributionsCome for the sculpture, stay for the viewsA fascinating sculpture set by the sea. Understandably you'll take this for one of the art installations in one of your home cities and pass it off for nothing, but what sets it apart from the rest, it's where it's situated. Sitting opposite Engey Island you receive the most exquisite view of the mountains. With us visiting late February, the majority of the ice and snow has left the mainland, but can still be seen sitting atop the mountains. A very underrated point of interest in Reykjavik, if you're looking to take it the sights, this is definitely one of the places you need to go.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten February 28, 2024
- mohzan hKuala Lumpur, Malaysia496 contributionsViking ShipIts a stainless steel structure of a Viking boat / ship. They said ' a dreamboat , Ode to the sun. Located along the beach at capital city of Reykjavik , a very " relax " and great atmosphere to hang out or jog or walk the dog.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten March 19, 2024
- ClaireWithLove2,386 contributionsEnjoy the waterfront walk and skyline view to the Sun VoyagerA lovely metal, modern sculpture of a Viking ship or as my husband thought - a salmon. The sculpture has a curved wall where you can sit and admire the sculpture and the sky line and water. It is on a nice waterfront walk and close to the Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, the stunning green glass building, which is open to the public to walk in. Bathrooms on the 2nd floor and gift shop and restaurant on the main level.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten March 20, 2024
- K PastoreHinsdale, Illinois667 contributionsBeautiful tributeA beautiful tribute right off the water. This shining sculpture catches the sunrise and sunset along with the reflection of the water. Worth a view as you walk along the trail, especially at midnight waiting for the northern lights.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten April 23, 2024
- 22travel2xKent, Ohio181 contributionsEnjoy a walk hereThis is sculpture that is a Reykjavik treasure. You may not spend a lot of time looking at it but look at where you are on the waterfront. Take a walk on the parkway and you will find that the scenery is spectacular. There is parking right by this site and a paved walkway.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten May 29, 2024
- FaithfultravelerHalifax, Canada3,419 contributionsSólfarið on a beautiful June dayThe gleaming steel sculpture on Reykjavík‘s splendid waterfront resembles a Viking long-ship. It is called the ‘Sólfarið’ or ‘The Sun Voyager.’ The artist Jón Gunnar Arnason created the striking landmark. See our pic attached to this review with that amazing panoramic view of the bay with Mount Esja in the background.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 23, 2024
- Irene TSingapore, Singapore302 contributionsSleek & strikingThe sleek, Viking ship-inspired design against the backdrop of the sea and mountains creates a striking and symbolic sight. It's an iconic landmark in the city, so I guess that makes it a must-see. The walk to the sculpture is very nice. It was a very windy day when I visited so I didn't stay too long as it was so cold. But if the weather is nice, it'll be lovely to sit and admire the view for a while.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten July 7, 2024
- JanQQQBraunschweig, Germany1,670 contributionsAt sunset one of the most beautiful....., photo subjects far and wide. Where sunset in summer means having patience until just before midnight. Unfortunately, it is actually a patience game to be able to depict this sculpture without tourists running in. If you even want to shoot a time-lapse video of it, you have to add luck to your angel patience. It's probably best to show up at 6 a.m. You can stop just above the main road at one of the two bays and then take a photo. Better to walk from the harbour district over here. Unfortunately, the artist Jón Gunnar Árnason has not grown very old.Visited July 2024Travelled soloWritten July 13, 2024
