If you go before 9 in the morning, you can contemplate and take all the photos you want, because there is no one, so you can pet the statue of the dog with peace of mind. As of mid-morning, it's totally crowded. The Guide of one of the tours we did warned us about pickpockets that abound in the busiest areas of the city, including this bridge.

Charles Bridge in Prague is an artistic and cultural gateway of the city that offers much more than just a picturesque stroll. Connecting the Old Town (Staré Město) and Lesser Town (Malá Strana), it’s a place where history, art, and the life of the city come together. The intricate Baroque statues along the bridge are worth a closer look - each one tells a story tied to Prague’s rich past. For a unique experience, visit early in the morning or late in the evening. These quieter times let you fully appreciate the bridge’s atmosphere without the usual crowds. During the day, the bridge comes alive with street musicians, artists, and vendors, adding a vibrant and local touch to the experience.

Visiting Charles Bridge in Prague was a truly magical experience for my family and me. This iconic bridge, with its medieval charm and stunning views, became one of the highlights of our trip to the Czech capital. From the moment we stepped onto the bridge, we were struck by its historic beauty. The bridge, which spans the Vltava River, is lined with baroque statues of saints, each adding to the bridge’s timeless atmosphere. We took our time walking across, admiring the detailed sculptures and the gothic towers on both sides. The bridge itself, made of sandstone, is beautifully worn, adding to its sense of age and history. One of the most memorable parts of the visit was the views of the city. Looking down the river, we saw the impressive Prague Castle on one side and the charming Old Town on the other. The skyline of Prague, with its red rooftops and historical architecture, was simply breathtaking, especially as the sun began to set. We spent a lot of time taking photos and just soaking in the scenery. The bridge was busy with tourists and street performers, which gave it a lively, vibrant atmosphere. Musicians played traditional Czech music, and local artists were selling their work along the sides of the bridge. My children especially loved stopping to watch the musicians and artists, which added an extra layer of fun to the experience. As we walked across, we learned a bit about the history of the bridge, which was built in the 14th century by Emperor Charles IV. The bridge was the main route connecting the Prague Castle with the Old Town, and its importance in Prague’s history was evident. There’s a certain romantic charm about Charles Bridge that makes it a must-see for anyone visiting Prague. We also enjoyed spending time on the Vltava Riverbanks on either side of the bridge. The peaceful ambiance, combined with the historic surroundings, made for a perfect spot to relax and take in the view. Overall, our visit to Charles Bridge was a wonderful experience. It offered a perfect blend of history, beauty, and cultural vibrancy. Whether you’re admiring the bridge’s architecture, taking in the view of the city, or enjoying the lively atmosphere, Charles Bridge is a must-visit when in Prague. It’s a place where the past truly comes alive, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most iconic landmarks in Europe.

In my humble opinion, the third most important tourist sight in all of Prague must be the Charles Bridge! It is always crowded, morning, noon or at night with many tour groups. I really enjoy walking over the bridge towards sunset as the light at that time is very special and seems to ascent the 30 statues lining this beautiful bridge. Most of the statues were of various saints. This arched stone bridge was built in the early 15th century and took just over 45 years to complete. The Charles Bridge has had many names, but the one that is used since 1870 is the Charles Bridge. What I really like is that this bridge carries pedestrians so one can walk slowly across the bridge crisscrossing it at any time. There are many venders selling all types of touristic items from paintings to musical CD’s. For me the best walk is to cross the Charles Bridge from the Old Town towards the Prague Castle side and then make a left turn and walk along the Vltava River. There are many fascinating alleyways along the river. This walkway leads to the next bridge called Slovansky Ostrov Bridge which is genuinely nice to cross as it crosses Slovansky Island in the Vltava River. From this side you can visit all sections of the Old Town, etc. Prague is truly a walking city, and the Charles Bridge can be used as the center of this city.

Charles Bridge is without a doubt one of the most iconic landmarks of Prague. The first stone bridge on this site was built in 1158 and it was replaced in 1357 on the order of Emperor Charles IV. It might be hard to imagine the bridge without its numerous statues today but the first statue was only added in 1657, nearly three centuries after the bridge's foundation. Perhaps the most famous statue on the bridge is that of St John of Nepomuk, a court priest to one of the Kings of Bohemia in the 14th century. Charles Bridge remained the only bridge between the Old Town of Prague and the Lesser Town until the 19th century, but today a total of more than 15 bridges cross the river. It's hard to decide whether it's best to visit the bridge in the early morning, during the day or at night, so I recommend you visit it at all of these times, which shouldn't be difficult to do considering the bridge's central location. My girlfriend and I found the bridge particularly romantic at night with the lights on and we enjoyed seeing it from many different angles during the boat cruise which we took in the late morning on our last day in Prague.

Brought a visiting couple to tour Prague and the Charles bridge is a must see. Always crowded even late at night but sometimes during the day it can be so crowded you can barely walk through. Lighted at night. Street artists available there to sell you a painting or draw you. Many pubs and restaurants nearby. Great views from this historic bridge. Recommend. We will be back.

Charles Bridge is one of the most iconic places in Prague, and for a good reason! The statues along the bridge and the view of the river are just beautiful. It does get crowded during the day, so I’d recommend going early in the morning or late in the evening. I loved walking across the bridge, taking photos, and just soaking in the atmosphere. The street musicians and artists add so much life to the place. A must-see when in Prague!

This beatiful bridge connects the old town to Lesser. It has lots of amazing statues and there are street sellers and artists along the route. The bridge is equally as impressive when viewed from the river bank or when crossing it on foot. The bridge is best visited early in the morning or in the evening when it is less crowded.

During our short stay in Prague we walked it several times, one way or the other, and there was no occasion when it was not crowded with tourists, traders and street artists. The pylons are surmounted by statues of Saints, also of fine workmanship but almost all blackened by smog and difficult to clean due to the fragility of the limestone with which they are made. Thanks to the pedestrianization, its crossing does not require special precautions, except to pay attention to the crowds. It is one of the rare beauties that can be visited free of charge, not least because it would be extremely difficult to find a way to distinguish Prague citizens (who must be guaranteed free transit) from the overwhelming mass of tourists.

Very beautiful bridge, with plenty of bridges. Of course it has crowds. It is best to visit either very early in the morning (before 11) or later (after 7 p.m.). It has garbage cans and planners selling things or painting. It has very beautiful religious statues. They say if you touch them, you'll get good luck in whatever you wish!

The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.
