    The best winter market holiday.
We give this a 5/5 for winter holiday. Everything that you need is walking distance - down a cobblestone road. There are SO many cafe and restaurants and attractions that you see one every time that you turn your head. The Christmas Market is one of the best that we have been to, FAR better than Manchester UK’s markets. Everything is in Estonian/ English/ Russian. Some businesses, like the Chinese food stall in the market only speak English. For those with a keen eye try to find the gallery with the photo I have uploaded. You have to look into a gallery window that looks down into the cellar.

    Stunning
I have been to 86 countries and this city is one the best places I and my wife have ever visited. We went in the winter which added to our enjoyment as it was cold and very snowy. The medieval centre is stunning, loads to see and do. The people, sites to see, restaurants and bars are excellent. Go visit and you will not be disappointed.

    A stunning city
Tallinn Old Town is stunning. So many beautiful buildings to see. Lots of small cobbled streets and passageways. The parks surrounding Old Town are also worth an explore. Lovely coffee places and restaurants to enjoy.

    Great place to visit
A very compact old town, with numerous monuments to see and visit within a walking distane. The city walls, the cathedral, the orthodox church, the palace and numerous cobbled streets and old merchant houses - they all make up the atmosphere of the plcace. It's good that the old town preserved the traditional layout and character. If you get tired, you can always sit for a cup of coffee or tea and grab a delicious cake in several cafes and restaurants. And - don't forget the roasted almonds sold in the square (the Medieval sellers do accept credit cards, though :)

    Reason We Came
The Old Town is the reason we came to Estonia. We are on a do-it-yourself three week trip to Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. One stop in the capital city and one stop in an interesting destination in each country. Since our Airbnb was located on the edge of Old Town, we could easily explore the cobbled streets. Beautiful.

Kadia was the best guide ever!
Our guide was Kadia. She was amazing and better than many of our PAID tours (we tipped her accordingly). She was very organized, energetic and had visuals to share that helped explain things (like the timeline of Estonia occupation and independence over hundreds of years.) She wove in lots of personal observations and stories as well. Highly recommend if you get her for your tour guide!

Great area to spend time in
A wonderful way to get to know this city. The streets are cobbled and clean. Architecture is beautiful and varied pending on who was ruling at the time. Lots of restaurants and small stores to shop for.The central square is lovely with a “Apteek ” from 1422 which is still operating. The seating made from last year’s Christmas trees are a wonderful way to sit and watch the crowds and relax.

    Beautiful Old Town
Loved this place. Compared to UK it's clean and relaxed. Lots of quaint historic walks and a beautiful cathedral. There are a couple of panoramic view points which are at the top of a fairly steep walk. We headed for a point furthest away and then walked back stopping at Landmarks along the way. Interesting to learn that it was ruled by Denmark in times past.

    Tallinn Old Town
Tallinn is a small medieval town with lots of architecture to look at. There are a lot of places to dine. Everything is centered around the town hall it is a city with some of the city walls still up. It has a lovely church that for an admission fee you can take a lift to nearly the top to view a panoramic view of Tallinn old town.

    Lovely Tallinn old town!
We walked through the old town with a local expert in May 2024, as part of an Insight Vacations 'Northern Capitals' tour. Well worth a visit! So much history - dating back to the 15th century. I returned during free time - there is a courtyard of artisans down one of the streets (with a chocolate cafe on site) - some lovely glass artistry! There are also plenty of shops selling amber.

The view from Tallinn TV Tower is unique in Estonia as well as in all of Northern Europe. Under your feet are the woods of Muuga. The captivating Tallinn Old Town and the glistening Baltic Sea in all of its majestic glory are off in the distance. When Estonia was still behind the Iron Curtain, this was for many Estonians a window on the free world - at night one could even catch sight of the lights of Helsinki. To illustrate the view, visitors can use multimedia screens: to increase the area visible in it or seeing what the place looked like in the past. It is a view that must be seen. And - experienced! Bus information: The TV Tower is served by city buses 34, 38 and 49 ("Teletorn" stop), as well as by CityTour and City Sightseeing tourist buses (green line, Mere pst - Teletorn). Handicapped-accessible.

  • Tallinn Town Hall Hotels
The oldest surviving and the only intact gothic Town Hall in Northern Europe. Dating from the late 13th century, it was first mentioned in 1322 and completed in its present size in 1404. Today the Town Hall performs its historical function as the venue for festive ceremonies and public concerts. The colourful vaults, murals and tapestries reflect the wealth of the Hanseatic town. Rarest of all are the medieval benches depicting Tristan and Isolde, Samson and Delilah etc. The carved frieze in the Council Chamber is one of the finest examples of Baroque in Estonia. The height of the medieval bell tower is 64 metres. The bell chamber is at the height of 34 metres.
