    Gold Temple in Chiang Mai
Overall rating: 7/10 ⭐️ Best time to visit: Late afternoon, at 4-5pm Best to reach by: GRAB or walk if you are just close by What to expect: Cultural experience to a religious temple with gold architecture. Not a big temple but worth a stop by. Comments: Beautiful temple in the heart of Chiang Mai. It's nice to stop by for a while. Best to come by GRAB, because it's still in the heart of the city, and not that expensive (cheaper than if you ride the tuktuk). They have really impressive gold architecture. We recommend coming late in the afternoon for good views (because it's not hot), and you can also see some locals praying, providing a cultural experience.

One of Chiang Mai's finest temples.
EVERY time I come to Chiang Mai I always visit Wat Phra Singh because the temple is such a striking place to come to. Work to build it began nearly seven centuries ago and construction or renovation has ebbed and flowed ever since. I particularly like the golden elephants half emerging on each side of the main chedi. Take the time just to sit down on one side and enjoy the site for the visual pleasure it gives. Wat Phra Singh can be easily reached since it is roughly in the centre of the Old City and every tuktuk or taxi driver knows it. Should not cost more than 100 baht (about £2.40) to get there.

Second most impressive temple in the Old Town
I’d say second most impressive temple in Chiang Mai’s Old Town after watChedi Luang. Built in 1345, it’s still in use today. There was a ceremony in the Wigan, which was also in the process of being refurbished.

    Elegant and grand temple
If for some reason, you have only time to visit one temple in Chiang Mai, then Wat Phra Singh, located in the western part of the old city centre, must be THAT temple. The grandeur and beauty of this place of worship can be seen well before you even enter its hallowed grounds. From afar, you can spot the golden stupas and beautiful rooftops. This is an important temple, judging by the endless lines of visitors because the premises is housing a sacred Buddha statue. Hence, it's important to dress properly, ie , no tank tops or short-shorts. And after you have paid your respect, tt's also a marketplace where vendors set up shop to sell their various wares.

    Not to be missed
What an amazing place !!! Manet temples in Chiang Mai… This one is not to be missed. Over 300 steps to climb up to the temple, we’ll worth the effort. Further more - great view of Chiang Mai from top of the mountain

    Awesome!!
Spectacular temple within walking distance of our accommodation in Old Town Chiang Mai. The gold on the dome is so ornate and beautifully smooth. We were able to watch monks chanting, around lunchtime. There are a few smaller temples too. One has 10 wax monks sitting in prayer mode. They are SO life like- had me fooled when I first entered! My daughters lived the 'temple cat' who was fast asleep on a pile of prayer matts. Beautiful inside and out!

    Beauty and peace
Such a beautiful atmospheric temple to visit, our guide was so interesting explaining all the parts of it (well worth having) we visited late afternoon were able to see and hear the monks chanting and receive a blessing. we used the funicular to reach it as its around 300 steep steps otherwise. Great city views if it is clear

    Peaceful Among Crowds
One of the larger temple areas in the city, it gets rather crowded here. However, the quiet nature of temples and the garden area on the grounds here help preserve the peace. The most striking feature here for me was the smaller building towards the back that was completely coated in gold. Very easily found and within walking distance of most places in the inner part of Chiang Mai.

    Beautiful
This is a beautiful wat from the outside and houses some fine, richly adorned, Buddha statutes. There are some other beautiful shrines behind the main wat. If you only want to see one wat, make this the one.

If you ever find yourself in Chiang Mai, I would highly recommend seeing this.
Not at all expected. That is undoubtedly true. Not even previous pictures of this Wat that I've seen can prepare you for the sight of such a massive structure draped in gold. Shiny, with a faint trace of insence wafting by, an inquisitive visitor stream through, and a jet taking off (the airport is approximately 6km distant)... active worshipers.

World’s First Silver Sanctuary World’s First Silver Sanctuary, located at Wat Sri Suphan (Sri Suphan Temple), Chaingmai, Thailand. The Abbot of Sri Suphan Temple, Phrakru Phitak Suttikun (Suphon Suthasilo), Temple Committees, Devotees, and group of Lanna craftsman had been constructed the silver sanctuary by using the former base, former boundary stones and former principle Buddha image (Phra Jao Jed Tue, built in B.E. 2043.). The Silver Sanctuary was built and decorated by Silver Handicraftsmen (Lanna folk wisdom) of Wua Lai Community that has been descended from their ancestors. The sanctuary is decorated with the pure silver on the most crucial and safety parts. Aluminum was used for the decoration of the rest of the sanctuary areas, instead of using pure silver for the whole building. Inside the sanctuary, each carved wall consists of the stories of Lord Buddha, Buddhist Doctrine, History of Phra Jao Liab Lok and Phra Jao Prod Lok (Thai Buddha’s preaching stories), Buddha’s footprint, and the happiness life in believe of Buddhism. On the other hand, the outside of the sanctuary’s walls are symbols of National Institute, Religion, and Royal Family, 4 Lotuses indicating 4 types of human recognition, Personification, King of Naga, ASEAN countries, World’s famous cities, the King’s literary work; Mahajanaka Jataka, Srithandon, and 12 Zodiac Signs. These stories are shown for the stronger believes in Buddhism. The Silver sanctuary has been established since B.E. 2547 for the first time by group of Lanna craftsman using the local wisdom (Silver Crafts) for the decoration; taken for more than 12 years to be completed, with the donation from all believers as total amount of 35,152,314 Thai Baht (Thirty Five Million One Hundred and Fifty Two Thousand Three Hundred and Fourteen). Finally, the construction of World’s First Silver Sanctuary has been completed and ready for all religious services. It is also be the conservation of Wua Lai Community’s wisdom (Silver Handicraft) as a learning center, as religious teaching method, Life’s navigation for all visitors. The most importantly, we have been completed the determination for this sanctuary to become a National Memorial for Thai people and to praise our His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej (9th monarch of the Chakri Dynasty). Wat Sri Suphan would like to invite all believers and visitors to our opening ceremony of World’s First Silver Sanctuary and the celebration of 720th Year Anniversary of Nophaburi Sri Nakhonping during 28 March – 3 April 2016.

Temple built on what were once a 14th-century monarch's gardens. Today, site of a Buddhist university and a popular spot for photographers, especially during sunset. Some of the temple's chedis (spires) contain ashes of Chiang Mai's royal family. Also, one can see half of a holy Buddhist relic brought from Sukothai in 1371, which unfortunately split into two upon arrival in Chiang Mai. The other half is buried at Doi Suthep. A 500-year-old bronze Buddha image, one of the largest in northern Thailand, is also housed here, in the small hall at the back of the compound.
