    Sultanahmet: Heart of Istanbul
Sultanahmet, the heart of Istanbul, infuses itself with timeless magic. Walking under the glow of the Hagia Sophia and the magic of the Grand Bazaar, history, culture and modernity embrace each other. Lose yourself in its lively streets, where every corner opens a new chapter in the rich history of Istanbul.

    The Heart of historical Istanbul!
As part of our walking tour , our guide took us through to this district that happens to be the heart of old historic Istanbul. It’s filled with incredible history, we learned about the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. The streets are vibrant, bazaars, delicious food restaurants. Most attractions are free but some have an entrance fee.

    Nice place, pushy sales people
Amazing place, many historical sites close by. Too many stores selling the same products, very aggressive store clerks, if not buying refuse to enter the store. The sites are amazing, all very close by.

The city that calls us again & again
Travelled to Istanbul end of Feb We love the old Sultanahmet area. It's our 4th visit. If you want to see the tourist sights, mosques, grand bazaar etc you must stay in this area. It's a beautiful area filled with cobbled streets, beautiful mosques, bazaars, street vendors etc... Access around the area & towards other parts of Istanbul are easily available via the tram system. The marmary trains and buses are very efficient as well. Buy a travel card called the Istanbul Card. 1 card can be used by multiple members of the family. The grand bazaar is a must, busy and not for the faint hearted but a labyrinth of shops, alleys all tantalising the eyes, nose and taste buds. Visit the Hagia Sofia and Blue Mosque, The Topkapi palace, and many more beautiful tourist attractions. There's lots of different accommodation types from tiny 3* hotels to opulent 5* hotels. I recommend you choose a hotel close to a tram station due to the amount of walking you will be doing. Make sure you bring comfortable shoes as there's ALOT of walking. Be mindful that taxi's cannot enter the road alongside the blue mosque so trams are the main mode of transport. We rarely used taxi's as we prefer the tram & buses. Food is amazing in this area. Something for every budget. Do try the delicious Simit, sweetcorn & chestnuts from the street vendor carts. A must is dessert, Baklava or kunafe from the famous Hafiz Mustafa dessert chain. We cannot wait for our next visit

    Reflections of Sultanahmet District
The Sultanahmet region and its mosques are magnificent in every respect. First of all, the Sultanahmet Mosque welcomes you with its magnificent structure and do not miss the obelisks, then you witness the magnificence of Hagia Sophia, which has already left its mark with its might. My only advice is that if you want to be able to travel comfortably, do not visit during holidays because it is very crowded. You cannot visit the Hagia Sophia Mosque comfortably. To see the upper floors of the Hagia Sophia Mosque, you must enter with a ticket, that is, for a fee. When I first went there in 2015, this paid application was not available, and before Hagia Sophia was opened as a mosque, it had the simplicity of a museum. You should still see it.

The place to stay in Istanbul
The historical and touristic area of Istanbul. Many hotels are located here, in small bylanes with terraces overlooking the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. It becomes more lively in the evenings with many historical sites within walking distance.

THE QUINTESSENTIAL HISTORIC QUARTER OF ISTANBUL
It is simply the quintessential historical district of Istanbul. 60% of everything important and most interesting to know about the city is in this neighborhood. Of course if you don't want to waste time on transfers every day, you should look for hotels in this area. If you want to optimize time, I advise you to hire a tour of this area. More to enjoy and get to know much more of this neighborhood and its history. It's exciting.

    A wonderful experience
If you love history, architecture and scenic beauty, Istanbul is a must visit. Besides, it's a kebab treat for non veg foodies. For those with a sweet tooth, the balkhlavas and Turkish delight are a sure treat. Shoppers, the ceramics ,carpets and rugs are unique and gorgeous and, of course the knock offs for every brand of bags, purses, clutches could reel you with the duplication of the latest original. Language is an issue but surprisingly, most of the people you need to interact with, cabbies, shop keepers, are quick to pull out AI translator apps on their phones to help with basics. Cats can be overwhelming on the streets, in eateries and even hotels . Don't feed them at all. You'll be surprised how quickly the solo will convert into a brood menace!!! Dress light and carry walking shoes to enjoy this beautiful city, both, the European and the Asian sudes

    The heart of the city
Neighborhood safe and clean where all the main attractions are located and where it is convenient to stay since su turns quietly on foot. It has beautiful palaces and gardens and many mosques even small and suggestive. It is full of shops and restaurants, many with terraces with beautiful views of the Bosphorus

Built between 1609-1616, this impressive mosque has six minarets. Why is it called "Blue Mosque?" There are two stories: the first, more common one is that the interior is covered in Blue İznik tiles. The second is: many years ago, ancient sailors who sailed by the mosque on the Marmara Sea saw the blue colors of the sea reflected in the mosque.

Temporarily closed. This historic watchtower, also known as the Galata Kulesi Museum, can be found at the end of Istanbul’s Istiklal shopping street. Today, this museum has exhibition spaces where you can learn about the area's history and admire the iconic architecture of this stone tower. Head up to the observation deck, where you'll be treated to sweeping views of the city and the Bosphorus Strait. It gets busy during sunset though—you can skip the lines with an Istanbul Museum Pass. There are loads of shops and restaurants in the area too—you can explore the tower and the surrounding area on a guided tour of Istanbul.
