We never tire of visiting these world famous gardens in the magnificent garden city state of Singapore. Although it’s very popular it’s large enough to absorb many visitors without it feeling crowded. The gardens are also home to the breathtaking National Orchid collection and, in our experience, this is where most of the large groups head for( whilst entry to the Botanic Gardens is free, there is an admittance fee for the orchid collection). Wandering around the gardens is so relaxing and there’s lots to see with most of the specimens clearly labeled. We find its best to visit in the early morning before the temperature rises and also before many of the tour groups arrive. Lakes, waterfalls and many fascinating and beautiful sculptures certainly add much interest to a visit. There are many magnificent trees as well as all manner of plants and shrubs. There are refreshments available but one we called at was card only for payment. Check out the ginger plant collection in particular and the bird life is spectacular if you’re lucky enough to see any! As long as we are able to continue visiting Singapore, we will always visit these Botanical Gardens. Very highly recommended.

Never to be missed, we spent two mornings at the Botanic Gardens, both times arriving just as dawn was breaking courtesy of the MRT. This allowed a full morning to be spent around the gardens, taking in breakfast after a couple of hours and retiring back to our son’s apartment around lunchtime when it became too hot and humid. So much has been written about the gardens, there is no real need to add more except to confirm that they are world class, beautifully maintained by a veritable army of gardeners and, amazingly, apart from the orchid garden, free of charge. They are a favourite with joggers, dog walkers and, as the morning wears on, organised school visits and crocodiles of tourists. Busy, but never crowded. There is always a lot of wildlife around but on our first visit, we did not see Singapore’s famous film-star otters. There was lots of advice from people about where they were yesterday, or their usual routes between ponds, and there were birds, terrapins and salamanders a-plenty; but no otters. Maybe, being film stars, their agent only lets them come out for appearance money these days. The second visit also started early and my wife decided that it was necessary to “discuss” which platform to use at Downtown MRT station to get to the gardens. (Same as on the previous occasion, one might have thought.) Naturally, she favoured the “other” one. By the time the discussion was over, we descended to the platform to see the train vanishing down the tunnel. No matter, it was only two minutes until the next one. However, they were an important two minutes. We strolled into the gardens accompanying the usual joggers and dog walkers who take advantage of the cool dawn period, and as we rounded the corner towards the northernmost pond, we were just in time to see the back legs and tail of an otter slip into the water fifty yards away. By the time we made that spot, the only trace of otters were about half a dozen tiny bow waves at the other side of the pond heading for the reeds. If only we had not been held up by the “discussion” and missed the train! Oh well; next time we are in Singapore perhaps. Anyway, it was still a most pleasing morning around the gardens and they remain, even with elusive otters, a “must see” location in Singapore.

We had a fantastic day here - if you are a plant fan, this beats Gardens by the Bay hands down. One of the best botanic gardens I have visited …. it is free to enter, but the Orchid Garden has an entry fee (but it is definitely worth it!!) There is so much to see here - we started at 8am, left at 4pm and could easily have stayed longer. Be sure to pace yourself as it is very big, and Singapore is very hot …. but there are drinking water fountains everywhere and a nice selection of cafes/restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. Other than the orchid garden, there are too many highlights to pick a favourite so just enjoy wandering and dipping in to the huge range of different areas. There is also plenty of wildlife roaming around (the monitors will make you jump when you see the first one!!) ….. the only word of warnings is that there are no printed maps so you have to rely on the signposts. Maybe I was having a bad day but orientating myself did prove very tricky on occasions!!

A green lung of 74 hectares - open from 5 am to 0 am (free) - you can come picnic on the lawns, it is cut into different themes. you meet varans, hens, roosters, black swans, turtles - and something rare of otters who had just taken a bath in one of the lakes and entered their space. A haven of peace, to see everything takes a good big day, personally I did it in 2 mornings.

We had a great day at the gardens. They are great to see and lots of different plants and trees and lovely views. It did start raining heavily when we were there but they do have shelters dotted around the gardens to shelter in but recommend taking your umbrella. We particularly enjoyed the food at the food hall - it was v quiet when we were there but of really good standard.

The Singapore Botanic Gardens are a must visit for nature lovers offering a serene escape from the city's hustle recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site the gardens boast stunning landscapes including the renowned National Orchid Garden which is well worth the small entry fee. The collection of orchids is breathtaking and offers a glimpse into Singapore’s dedication to biodiversity and beauty. Reaching the gardens is simple as they are accessible via two MRT lines. The free entry makes it easy to explore at your own pace. If you’re caught in a sudden rainstorm spots like The Bees’ Knees cafe provide a cozy refuge with coffee and Wi-Fi making the experience even more enjoyable. Platforms like Cheqin can assist travelers identify local rooms that fit their agenda. Staying close allows you to enjoy the gardens earlier when it's cooler and less busy. The Botanical Gardens are undoubtedly one of Singapore's treasures. Don't pass up the opportunity to immerse yourself in their beauty.

We only spent a couple of hours here, but we could so easily have spent most of the day here. The Gardens are free to enter, but there are additional charges for the Orchid Garden. It is worth the entrance fee of 15 Singapore dollars for an adult and 3 Singapore dollars if over 60. The Orchid Garden is amazing, and there are so many beautiful varieties of Orchid. The Rainforest walk is also worth it, and keep an eye out for squirrels, etc. We will certainly be coming back here when we return to Singapore.

The atmosphere here is very relaxing. People walk, picnic or just sit by the lake to relax. I especially loved the lake and the beautiful trees that provide perfect shade on a sunny day. If you’re visiting Singapore, I recommend visiting, whether you’re a nature lover or just looking for a quiet retreat in the city. It is a wonderful place to spend a few hours relaxing!

Every time we’ve visited Singapore we never seem able to get here!! But we headed out to the gardens on the worse day possible, the first day in the whole week and it rained!! Now being British a little rain doesn’t make much difference 😂 but this was like a monsoon. Both hubby and I looked like drowned rats by the time we walked into the orchid house the orchids are amazing , and by the time we came out the rain had subsided somewhat. Definitely worth the trip out. And as someone else mentioned the gardens themselves are free & seniors off any country can get into the orchid house for $3.
