Hotels near Campuhan Ridge Walk

Amid lush ravines and picturesque rice fields, the Campuhan Ridge Walk is one of the most popular treks in Ubud. You’ll start off the hike at the meeting point of the Wos Rivers by the historic core of this charming Bali town. Stop along the way to take in the views and recharge with some coffee overlooking the peaceful lily ponds. About three miles there and back, the trail is best enjoyed around sunrise and sunset, when temperatures are milder. After the hike, don’t miss Ubud’s vibrant city center, where you can shop for handicrafts and visit ancient landmarks. – Tripadvisor

The walk starts at the beautiful Campuhan Temple in Ubud and continues north to a small village. (You may do it from north to south also.) It is peaceful and a nice experience, even though you may not have many free views over the surroundings. Rekommend you do the walk either early in the morning or at sunset, since it’s very hot at midday! There are a few parts that can be a little strenous for elderly or those who have to take their small children along.

We started from the Ubud end of the trail. A steep walk up past the temple - apparently at the spot where an early settler used to run yoga sessions back in the day - and then on to the ridge itself. Lovely views across the valleys on either side. As you hit civilisation again it’s nice to see the rice paddies and farmers / artists (often both depending upon the season and state of their rice paddy). A few cafes start to appear and then the trail morphs into a quiet road. We stopped where the road started to get a little busier and walked back. Overall it was probably only about an hour at a reasonable pace to cover both directions, but you can obviously take it slower. I would suggest starting as early as you can as we started at about 0830 and it was getting busier on the walk back.

On a hot humid and slightly wet day in September we decided to do the Campuhan Ridge walk. Firstly it has to be said that the walk starts at one end of the Ubud village but the one furthest away from the palace so is a fairly long walk along very uneven broken pavements. Then when you find the sign for the walk you go downhill cross a river and go along the walls of a building and join the uphill track which is the ridge walk. The track is actually narrower than we expected and very busy but the views are really good. It isn't a strenuous walk but is uphill so does take done effort. At the top is the Karsa cafe (see other review) which is an excellent stop off point before the return trek and overlooks rice fields.

If you walk down the steep entrance lane, take the small steps and walk to the right of the temple, since that is the start of the walk. The walk was nice, relaxed, quiet and remarkable clean. So no garbage between the nature and enough bins available to put any garbage in. At the end of the walk there are restaurant and hotels, so we continued to walk straight on en used Google to walk back to the start point of our walk and have lunch there. Total that is about a 2,5 hour and 6.5 km. walk including a small drink brake at a nice place just before we hit the main road to Ubud.

The **Campuhan Ridge Walk** in Ubud is one of Bali's most scenic walking trails, offering breathtaking views of lush green hills and expansive valleys. This 2 km path runs along a ridge, surrounded by rice fields, palm trees, and tropical vegetation. It's an ideal spot for those looking to enjoy the natural beauty of Ubud while soaking in a sense of tranquility and peace. The best times to visit are early in the morning or late in the afternoon near sunset, when the air is cooler, and the sunlight enhances the charm of the landscape. This trail is popular with both tourists and locals, whether for relaxation, exercise, or simply taking in the natural beauty that Bali has to offer.

The Camphuan ridge walk was a nice activity to do just to get out of central Ubud for a couple of hours. While there are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the way to rest and recharge at, the walk is not suited for people with mobility issues as it is steep and uneven in places. Best enjoyed in the early morning or late afternoon/early evening before it gets dark and when it’s cooler.

First of all, physical preparation, because the walk is long (9km) with slopes and slopes in stretches of land and sometimes mud, at some points very slippery - no fingerslip or cotton clothes! Indonesia’s economy is pulsing, only buildings are seen everywhere, and the famous urban rice fields are disappearing. It's not like before... For those who have never seen them, it is best to start with these and then go to the simplest ones also inside Ubud, because they are more authentic. The tropical nature, similar to ours, impresses more than the fields already beaten and without production. Most of all, there's a leg...

Enjoyed, but not what I was expecting. Walk through the rain forest then through a village with shops, cafes, etc. We walked a bit further to see some rice fields. Don't know where the ridge came into it. It was slippy and I fell twisting my ankle so do be careful.

We enjoyed our sunrise walk on our last day in Bali. It says on some of the maps, the south side of the ridge is not open. so we drove to the north side. However, both are actually open and we could have started our journey from either end. It did not matter as the views were beautiful and it was lovely to be up early when the ridge was less busy and cooler. Best avoided in midday heat!

The location is not as hard to find as the review i read before. We use google maps to get there from ubud center by walking around 15-20 minutes. It's not suitable if you bring your little ones because it's a long walk. We go there around 11 am so it's hot. Better go in the morning. It's a hiking place, so wear comfortable shoes. In the halfway there's a warung/stall selling coconut and drinks. Beside it there's a swing. But you have to pay to the guard if you take photos sitting in the swing, becauae it's by the cliff. Don't expect too much at the end or you'll dissapointed like me. 😀 Overall it's good for exercise, some says you can see sunrise if you go early.

  • Yeh Pulu Temple Hotels
Yeh Pulu Temple Build on 14th or 15th century and are in a very attractive rice field setting. You can reach Yeh Pulu on foot through the rice fields from Goa Gajah but you will definitely need a guide for the 45 minute walk as there is no path to speak of. Alternatively turn off the Ubud to Gianyar main road about 400 metres east of the entrance to the Goa Gajah complex. Drive through Banjar Batulumbang until the road comes to an end. For here walk down the track to Yeh Pulu passing the small warung on your left. As well as the carvings there is a holy well here and the attendant priest will be happy to bless you with the well water. Temple dress code applies here. Yeh Pulu is a much under-rated and under-visited site - highly recommended.
