The parking is a nightmare with improper directions and long walks. Per se the lights at the zoo is a nice event. Bear in mind prices are quite high, a beer is $13 We carefully followed the instructions for parking. Since parking close to the zoo was full, we had to drive all the way to the other side, to the Science Museum. Those parking spots are small and it was already busy, but we managed to park our car safely. Then we started walking. Unfortunately, we were then stopped by parking attendants from the Science Museum and were told that because we were going to the zoo we would not be allowed to park there. Even though the signs said to park there. By now we had spent about 15 minutes trying to find this spot. We had to leave again and drive back to the zoo. It took a while to get there, or rather the park south of the zoo, but once we finally got there the parking attendant guided us into a small parking lot that seemed full. So, I asked if there were still spaces and he said yes. Once we entered the small parking lot it was completely full, not only with cars parked but also with cars having been directed there. So, it was a nightmare situation where it was very difficult to turn around and exit. The attendant kept sending cars to a full lot that now had every square of asphalt covered in cars. It was a parking drama. We finally got out and found a spot on the grass somewhere else. Of course the shuttle that was supposed to drive us to the zoo had just left. So we walked all the way to the zoo. All in all, it took about 45 minutes from arrival to actually getting into the zoo. In this case it was just my wife and I, but I can imagine the nightmare having to do this with little children or even a stroller.

This is a nice zoo with an easy to follow set up. It's a bit very large so you can do the whole zoo in a couple of hours. We highly recommend feeding the birds, but purchasing and sharing one cup is plenty! We also recommend buying the dual pad for the Cox Science Museum next store. We easily did both in the same day and it was only a few dollars more. Bonus! Free mini golf in the Science Museum's outdoor area.

We really enjoyed our visit to the zoo which is an easy walk through in about 2 hours. Seemed like there were activities for the kids including a merry go round and splash zone. It's not a huge zoo, the largest animal seemed to be the tiger who was sleeping and we saw him from far away. The cougar and panthers were out so we got a good view of them. Also enjoyed viewing the koalas and sloths. I'm not a fan of animals in cages but these animals are either rescued or from other zoos and cannot be released into the wild. The eagle had been hit by a car and lost part of a wing so rescued by the zoo. At the ticket office it was suggested we do the Flamingo Experience which we did and really enjoyed. We were able to spend 30 minutes interacting with, learning about and feeding four friendly flamimgos. I would highly recommend it. I thought the admission prices and flamingo experince prices were fine because we are supporting the animals.

What a really nice maintained zoo!! So many animals and very open. Not too crowded and o think we did get to see all of the animals! Participated in the otter experience. So cute and we learned so much! Definitely worth a visit!! Oh, and it's small so won't take up a large part of your day!

I enjoyed the opportunity to meet a capybara in a small group! Very special memory. Fun to learn interesting facts and we fed Iyari banana leaves. A bonus was also leaning about the tapirs too.
Hello, Thanks for hanging out with Iyari and the tapirs! They love meeting new friends. We'd encourage you to try another Animal Experience during your next visit.

  • Clematis Street Hotels
The History of Clematis Street & West Palm Beach Henry Flagler A history of the Clematis Street District or of West Palm Beach cannot be told without mentioning the name of Henry Flagler. Anyone who has been in Florida for even a short amount of time will recognize the name. It's all over Florida roads, bridges and beaches as well as countless other monuments and museums. Flagler's Dream: Palm Beach Henry Flagler co-founded Standard Oil Company with John D. Rockefeller and also built the Florida railroad from Jacksonville to Key West. He came to the West Palm Beach area in 1893. After being impressed with the natural beauty of the area, he sought to create the most famous resort in the world, Palm Beach. The resort would be conveniently accessible by his own railroad. He built two major hotels, The Breakers and the Royal Poinciana Hotel (later destroyed by a hurricane). He also built what is now West Palm Beach directly across Lake Worth for the service people who worked on the island and as a commercial district. Clematis Street Not only is it one of the trendiest places to be today, it also boasts a long and important history. Clematis Street began as the main thoroughfare of West Palm Beach in the early 20th century. It connected the train station on the west with the ferry to Palm Beach Island on the east. Early 20th Century: Storefronts logically multiplied and lined each way, as Clematis became the "Main Street" of West Palm Beach. The commuters of the day would traverse Clematis Street and frequent these shops before and after work, much like we do today. It's many older buildings display a fascinating journey through South Florida history. Automobiles Change Everything Eventually automobiles, bridges and highways replaced the train, ferry and buggies as the main means of transportation. While once the train station was the link to the outside world, visitors could now arrive via various routes. Okeechobee Boulevard would eventually become the main connection from route 95 over to Palm Beach and Clematis Street would lose its steady flow of passers-by. As the area progressed, suburban sprawl contributed to the growth of metropolitan West Palm Beach, yet the downtown business area remained. The Downtown Development Authority In 1967 the Downtown Development Authority was created to impact Downtown's economic conditions, formulate long-range plans for improving the appeal and accessibility of Downtown facilities, promoting their use, providing remedy to any deterioration of Downtown property values, and most importantly, retaining and attracting businesses to Clematis Street. In short, the DDA works to retain and attract business and to protect the investments of its constituents. Largely due to the Downtown Development Authority Clematis Street is still considered the Main Street of West Palm Beach.
