Hotels near Norton Museum of Art

The Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton (1875-1953) and his wife Elizabeth Calhoun Norton (1881-1947). The Museum’s permanent collection now consists of more than 7,600 works in five curatorial departments: European, American, Chinese, Contemporary and Photography. The Museum’s expansion that opened February 9, 2019 was designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of the architectural firm Foster + Partners. It is the most comprehensive in the institution’s 78-year history. Dramatic changes include boldly re-orienting the main entrance to South Dixie Highway , which restores the symmetrical east-west campus axis created in 1941 by original architect Marion Sims Wyeth. The building and accompanying lush sculpture garden, enable the Norton to exhibit more art, present more programs, and provide a growing community an up-to-date center for the public to enjoy art and culture.

One of the best museums I have ever been to. You will see works for art by major European artists, Ming dynasty vases, impressionist paintings, and outdoor sculptures by some more modern artists. The museum has about three floors and at the time of our visit the elevator was out of service,( hopefully, it will be repaired soon) We started on the outside first, and then we worked our way to the top. There are plenty of places to sit down and rest too. I hate museums where you have no place to sit and admire the art. We really enjoyed our visit and we would recommend it to any art lovers.

The museum is a quiet gem in a fantastic location that both avoids the Palm Beach traffic and offers fantastic amenities such as a great cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. They honor reservations in advance which makes the visit very stress free. Highly recommend the salmon entree and salads plus the special exhibits and weekend events are well worth the visit

Art After Dark is fantastic. Took a terrific docent tour and enjoyed painting a watercolor in the Open Studio with all the materials provided. Just wish I could have tried the Augmented Reality experience and learned more about some of the art pieces that way but ran out of time!

The Norton Museum of Art contains an excellent collection of American, European & Chinese art, with several interesting ongoing exhibitions. Spread out over three floors in a modern downtown West Palm Beach building, the collection reflects the interests of the Norton family founders. You can expect to see lots of schoolchildren taking tours during your visit. I particularly enjoyed a couple of the special exhibitions. Sports fans will enjoy the "Artists on Boxing" exhibits on the many aspects of boxing. Another interesting exhibit was "Sorolla and the Sea," on an impressionist Spanish painter and his many paintings of the Spanish coast. You can get through this museum in a couple of hours, so it won't wear you out.

It was our first visit to the Norton. We went for Norton at Night and had a wonderful experience. We ate dinner at the restaurant which was very good, took a 30 minute guided tour which was informative and listened to great music! We were impressed by many of the works of art that the museum has on display. We look forward to returning again.

A marvelous, airy art museum with an incredible selection of art, a great restaurant and wonderful exhibits such as current one titled "The Boxer" with screen prints, photo selections, ceramics, painting, etc from A. Warhol, Muhammed Ali' and a variety of other artists. Look for the 4 hanging "Everlast" Punching bags, they're amazing examples of extensive collage work! Another favorite was the Dale Chihuly "Undersea" Glass Ceiling near by. NOTE: Great parking right across the street.

The restaurant was a 5 star experience for lunch. Our waiter, Nick, was so helpful, polite and attentive. The food was delicious and the service top notch!!
