    Wonderful revisit
I revisited Cartmel Priory for the first time for about forty years, but this was one of my holiday priorities, as I had such a pleasant memory of it. I wasn’t disappointed! Highlights were the four sculptures by Josephine Vasconcellos: Saint Michael, the Flight into Egypt, a Virgin and Child, and a head behind a grill entitled The Young Martyr. The very helpful man looking after the shop told me her story, and the background of the brave Cartmel martyrs, killed by Henry VIII after the Pilgrimage of Grace, I bought some attractive Christmas cards in the excellent shop. If you visit Cartmel, prioritise the Priory, its miserichords, sculptures, beautiful windows, and Bible quilt.

Surprising church for a small town. Stop in, then have a drinking/meal in the town
The priory is one of the top things to do when you look at Cartmel. It’s a surprisingly significant building for a small town. Entry is free and there are a number of unusual features inside. It’s worth spending 1/2 an hour checking it out before retiring to one of the many watering holes in the town.

    Gorgeous Priory
Had a lovely visit to this stunningly beautiful place steeped in rich history. We were met on our entrance by a very kind gentleman who took the time to tell us about some of the history and features of the Priory which was much appreciated and made the visit extra special. You can pick up a leaflet that has a map of the Priory and some information and there is a lovely little gift shop. Well worth the visit

    Worth a visit
Whilst visiting Cartmell we visited the Priory- a much larger Church than we expected. The interior is very interesting and not too ornate. However, what was suprising was that the most decorative window was at the rear of the Church rather than at the alter end which had a window of mostly plain glass.

Amazing religious building but website/email communication is non-existent.
In a small village in Cumbria is Cartmel Priory. It is an absolutely fantastic religious building. Living not too far away, a visit to the Priory is a must when showing our visitors round the area. There are many former Abbeys and Priorys across the UK that are in ruins and give only a glimpse of their former majesty. Not so with Cartmel; it's fortunate survival can be recounted by the guides and there are tours that explain the history of the building. If you are interested in the history of England then the history of Cartmel Priory will not disappoint.
