    Fantastic experience but very windy!
Incredible views and an interesting site but very windy which meant it was a little scary at times. Still really worth doing. We got a taxi up to the site and then walked back down the road which worked really well.

    Beautiful, informative
Definitely a must-visit on a trip to Santorini. Amazing views from the ancient city, which rests on top of a large mountain overlooking the island. Fascinating to learn about the early settlements of ancient communities in the island. The only thing that would make it better would be some sort of a guided audio tour or booklet to follow.

A must see for any tourist
Went here with my girlfriends family on our second to last day, and I can not recommend it more. While the hike up was strenuous (We hiked up from the bottom of the mountain to the landing of ancient Thera), we had a blast, especially when admiring the views from the side. When we got to the top, we walked amongst the ancient stones and had a blast, while also learning more about the time period we were surrounded by. As a little fyi, I would not recommend this to anyone with mobility difficulties (Wheelchair, Crutches, Etc), as the walk through has no even paving. But overall, had a phenomenal time!

Well worth the hike from Perissa.
We hiked up from Perissa starting before 9am to avoid the hottest part of the day. We stopped off at the Chapel half way up. €6 each to see the Thera ruins but there is plenty to see of the old city. There are great views over Perissa and Kamari on the other side including the airport runway. It does require sensible shoes and a certain level of fitness but is very manageable. Bring water, hat and sunglasses.

    Beautiful excavation with breathtaking views!
We decided to do this trip independently. Fira has a great local bus service so we took the bus to the nearest stop and then walked up the mountain to Ancient Thera. It was hot so hard work. Just as I thought we would never get there we did! The site itself was fascinating. The route is really well plotted and the views from the top incredible. The walk on the site can sometimes be a bit steep so take your time and wear the right footwear! Sturdy walking shoes or trekking boots recommended. No shops up there so take some drinks too. A really lovely little trip which is highly recommended. You don’t have to walk up, most people drive!

Great place- hard to get there
Really interesting ruins. Very difficult, long hike to get there if you don’t have a car. We drove and it still took a lot of climbing to get there. It was worth it though. Great views and interesting ruins. Much more ruins than I expected. It was an entire ancient city high up on top of the mountain!

    Hard but, lovely trip
Georgeous trip, beautiful view. But not an easy one, till the parking place the road is like a zigzag, than the walking path is rocky and long and no fence by the cliffs, so definitly not for children. Only fit people, with tracking shoes. 6euros for adults, 3for kids. Oh… and you can watch airplanes landing or take off … quite intresting 😊

    Great walk upto Ancient Thera
Surprised by how big the site is, how quiet it was and amazing views as a bonus. We got the bus to Perissa and walked up to Ancient Thera, then walked down to Kamari- great way to spend day if enjoy walking. Take hat and plenty water and decent walking shoes

    Worth the climb
Difficult to get to, there are many steps and a steep path after the ticket booth. The Ancient Therans must have been very fit or they had lots of donkeys. Well worth the effort and more interesting than Akrotiri since their artifacts were moved to the Archeological Museum in Fira. Recommend you buy a 3-site 3-day ticket for 15 Euros and visit all three.

    Top of Santorni
Beautiful Hike so start early. Spectacular views, bring lots of water. Hike is on a steep switchback and road. Depending on weather makes it challenging. otherwise a fairly easy hike with proper footwear.
