I've already seen this exact review elsewhere on the internet, so like the reviewer, I'll cut and paste. The Tamarack Lodge is neither “disgusting” nor “nasty”. Nothing is “lurking in the dark”. It is an older place, and since family once again took over management four years ago, we've been making steady improvements. Yes, our carpet has some stains and is worn, but we vacuum it daily and steam clean it frequently. It is clean, if discolored in spots. Likewise in some places the tiles may not look so great, but they are just old, not radioactive. The windows are not broken, and the drop ceiling is not coming apart. What is true is that skiers sometimes put their skis through the ceiling tiles, and since the originals are not available as replacements, several tiles are mismatched. Ours is a family motel, and when you come here, you see our family. Having children's toys outside does not a House of Horrors make. Like you, we would rather that our kitchen not be visible behind the reception desk, but it has been that way since at least my grandparents' time, and for now we're making the best of it. Guests who arrive while we're having dinner see our dirty dishes; fortunately, most are not unsettled by the experience. Every hotel occasionally falls short on cleaning issues, and we're really sorry about the hair in the bath tub. We refunded 50% of your first night's stay as soon as we learned of this, and we did this even without you coming to see us about it. We regret the exaggerated language in your review. We believe it is unfair both to us, and to your readers. Sincerely yours, Gerard Fenech Lodge Manager Tamarack Lodge Motel Tahoe City, CA
