In 1963, Schöneberg was the centre of the political west, inspiring John F. Kennedy to choose this area to famously announce, "Ich bin ein Berliner." Times may have changed, but modern-day Schöneberg still pays tribute to its historical legacies. Once the richest city outside of Berlin proper, the area's affluent past is still visible in ornate housing facades dating back to the Gründerzeit of the 19th century, while residents in fur coats walking their dogs or shopping in high-end KaDeWe continue the tradition with a modern flair. Schöneberg was also once the centre of the decadent and burlesque nightlife of the 1920s. It was here that Marlene Dietrich partied with Christopher Isherwood and the first gay bar in Germany was founded. Today, the gay community still revolves around Nollendorfplatz. The overground Ubahn station is even illuminated in rainbow colors, paying tribute to Schöneberg's progressive past.
We walk through this lovely little park area to get to our Son's apartment nearby. It is a very attractive area, with the most beautiful fountain in the centre, It is well kept and so nice to walk through. In a most welcome residential area nearby.
"A good surprise - non-obvious touristic place to vist"
reviewed May 1, 2018 by MariaEmiliaMiranda
The visit was a recommendation of a berliner local friend and I was very happy to find this hidden place in Berlin. It is pure nature and very non-obvious touristic place to vist. Its is easily acessible with the metro (U-Bahn) and I recommend a vist of 2 hours there.
It's amazing view from the top...the way tour is guided with historical details and fun is infotainment. I would recommend everyone to go there once because it's really peaceful experience by the end of trip.
"Historic Locus for Freedom in the Heart of the Regenbogenkiez (Rainbow Quarter)"

If you've read these reviews you know that JFK made his famous 'Ich bin ein Berliner' speech here, representing hope for a united Berlin free from division and oppressive politics.
I'm here to add that nowadays Schöneberg is one of the most LGBT friendly quarters of Berlin, where you can just be yourself without worrying about not fitting in. You...
I will go back to this restaurant every time I return to Berlin. Seriously sososo good. You get to choose your sauce - the spicy sauce is sooo good, maybe worth asking if you can get a mixture of all three.

"Very good cozy restaurant"

I visited this site recently and it was great. Eric knows his business and you can expect a real Cuban experience, not the typical restaurant for foreigners. I was delighted to talk with the owner and test his knowledge! Will come back shortly, fish was excellent and so the drinks and service! I checked with some Cuban friends living in...
We have tried many Indian restaurants in Berlin but Haveli wins hands down. The food is absolutely delicious! It is the most authentic Indian restaurant in Berlin. the flavours remind us of home and this has become our favourite haunt whenever we want a taste of authentic Indian food. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to...
We booked to stay in this hotel, as the reviews were very good. It was convenient for us as our family live nearby. The hotel was very quiet understandably due to the corona virus. But the staff were welcoming and accommodating. Our room was fine, overlooking the square. Facilities good, nice bed, pillows not like we were used to but...
This hotel is absolutely fantastic! The staff were lovely throughout the duration of our stay. We weren't expecting too much due to the cost but the room was lovely and big, really clean and the shower was massive! The breakfast was really good, lots of different items to choose from. We were given a voucher for a free drink each...
"Great location, comfortable hotel with good bar area"
reviewed February 22, 2020 by KayakingNomad
Comfortable reasonable size rooms, and friendly staff. Good value at less than €100 per night.
The bar and lobby lounge offered a good selection of bar food and the bar had a good atmosphere in the evening.
The gym was functional and offered treadmills, rowing machine and weights. Pool is small, but a nice extra in a city centre hotel....
Didn’t know what to expect for a 2 star hotel, but the rooms were fine, the breakfast okay, and the staff really helpful.
The location of the hotel is excellent near the shopping district, an underground station and also a pick up point for the sightseeing bus routes.
The Riu Plaza is a 4-star place owned by the Spanish Riu chain, obviously aimed primarily at business and conference people. But it's a good place to stay for holidaymakers too.
- Very well located in Schöneberg, 150 metres from Wittenbergplatz (and a little further to Nollendorfplatz in the other direction), so pretty easy access on the U-bahn to almost...
