Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
Enjoyed a well curated Rembrandt exhibit in Madrid as well as this extensive museum with some wonderful contemporary collections. While we spent and afternoon here, we really needed at least a full day or more. It is a bigger place than we expected after the special exhibition.
Gran Via became our life line in Madrid. We could walk along it then swing up a narrow side street and discover all sorts of fabulous restaurants and squares as we zig zagged our way around town so we never felt completely lost. So beautiful buildings along the street. Madrid really is a magical place.
On each side of the square are arched entrances linking it with Calle de Toledo, Calle Mayor & Calle Postas. Nearby is Chocolatería San Gines, Pasadizo de San Ginés, 5 specialising in churros with chocolate. Metro stops Ópera [line 2, red], [line 5, light green]; Sol [line 1, light blue], [line 2, red], [line 3, yellow]. Bus # 23, Duque...

This restaurant is one of a kind! The staff are incredibly welcoming. Our evening started with cocktails. Original offerings, as well as standards. The food exceptionally good - original flavors, original presentation. Exquisite! It was so very good that we went back the next night again! To our pleasant surprise, so did the person who sat at the table next...
The food is fantastic. We had a lovely plate of pesto and I had a great skirt steak which they got just at the right medium rare point!! They staff are also very attentive and the atmosphere is cosy but hip!! All in all and amazing experiences!! Ps the music was great too!!
We stayed in this hotel for just a few nights before the state of emergency was declared in Spain. Besides the fact that the hotel is beautiful and very well located, the reception staff was incredibly supportive when we decided to fly back home two days before our planned departure date. No extra costs charged to us, a suite for...
Enjoyed a 3 night stay at this hotel. The room was spacious, bed was super comfortable, and the bathroom was HUGE. The shower had double showerheads, and there were tons of counter space. The hotel decor is stylish and modern. Loved the candy jar in the reception area! Hotel staff were friendly, but their striped uniforms were a little tacky....
The design, location and the atmosphere is best in town. And above everything you will meet the best hotel staff you have ever met. Professional, smart and super super nice.
You cannot go wrong with this hotel.
Fabulous value hotel. We stayed for two nights via Expedia for under €170
Banging below during the afternoon siesta time was annoying and someone walking about in heels all night above us was trying
Lovely room but the minimalist style may not suit everyone particularly as storage space is limited. Comfortable bed. Good AC. Excellent shower. Nice balcony window onto...
Believe this is a better location than the Ritz to visit all tourist sites other than the museums and Retiro. Great service, neat ambiance and fun rooftop patio along with a good restaurant. As expected, rooms are generally smaller than hotels further away from the central area but they are well apportioned.
