Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
We were wandering around the Huerta neighbourhood when we came across this magnificent looking church and what a great find.
In a city that is packed with great looking churches this was one of the best we went to.
The church is famous as it houses the 17th century statue of Jesus.

"Well worth every penny"

Had a wonderful meal at Cebo to 'celebrate' (or rather 'soften the blow') of our last night in Madrid. Opted for the "around the entirety of Spain in 17 courses" option which was wonderful and well worth it (it's a course for every region, and deconstructed a classic dish or flavor profile of that region). Yes it's over the top....
Found this place with a review from
Trip Advisor. Might walk by it otherwise. It’s a cute little place with homemade breakfast/lunch selections. Not many selections, but what they do have is excellent & not expensive by US standards!
Came here several times for brunch & was even given a Spanish lesson by the owner!
Great staff, headed by a gregarious Cuban man, really made this place stand out.
The meat was quite good, as well as the Buffala Salad. The white Sangria, made by a terrific waitress, was delicious. We had the Tbone steak, which was quite good, as well as Criollo.
At the end of the meal we enjoyed complimentary liquors, which was...
After a couple of weeks in Spain eating wonderful local foods, we were ready to try something different. My wife made us reservations at Kausa Madrid. As we walked in I looked around to see what others were eating. It looked like everyone was having something different.
We sat down and I examined the wine list. It had a variety...
Our family of five spent seven glorious nights in three rooms, including the Eschegaray Suite to which we were upgraded. This was perhaps the most perfect hotel experience we have every had. Where to start? It is quite simple: the service!!! The entire staff is at the top of their game -- passionate, dedicated, professional, knowledgeable, perfectionist, empathetic and full...
We started our Iberian Peninsula vacation in Madrid and spent 3 nights at Catalonia Las Cortes. It was a perfect location for us, with many interesting streets, great restaurants, tapas bars, plazas, parks, palaces, and of course the Prado, all within walking distance.
We had a nice, clean and, as we requested, very quiet room that allowed us to get...
Lovely hotel downtown Madrid. Paola and May are very nice and welcoming. They make you feel at home. Breakfast is really good. Our room was big, clean and bright.
We warmly recommend it. We will definitely come back.
The staff is so friendly and the hotel manager is fantastic. The hotel merges original details from 1800th together with a modern look. The location is also great close to shopping streets and resturants.
The front desk staff was above and beyond excellent. So helpful smiling and friendly. Helped with directions, restaurant recommendations and tours, booking and selection. Really more like concierges. Location is so great too. Alba, Alexandra, lupu, Alana and Jose were amazing.
