The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.

"Praying for You"

The last time I was in St. Mark's, it was for the memorial of a dear friend who loved the city. Today, my heart is there, praying for the many kind people I have met in Venice and throughout Italy. The Basilica di San Marco is a stunning place, but reveals its true nature during religious services, even to those...

"Lovely square during Carnevale"
reviewed 1 week ago by patticha511
Not much to say about the square other than that it is very pretty! We came during Carnevale, so it was jam packed, but still pretty. There are a lot of souvenir shops and restaurants surrounding the perimeter.
The cooking lesson and dinner with Franco at The Gritti Epicurean School in Venice was one of the best vacation experiences of our lives. We are so grateful and highly recommend this!
The Gritti was an exceptional hotel in every way.

I can't emphasise enough that you have to visit Tuttinpiedl when in Venice.
The incredible pasta was made freshly to order by the master Marino and the food was only equalled by our kind host Valter.
Tuttinpiedi became our home from home after a long day of sightseeing and visiting bars, we truly felt part of the extended family.
Had a visit to the restaurant early afternoon before my flight from Venice. Amazing staff that took care of my special tastes in wine as well as food, attention to details and to wellbeing of the customers seemed to be of a outmost priority as well as the quality of the food and drinks. As a bonus got help not...
This is incredibly lovely place with the proper price/quality ratio. Great variety of pizzas, pastas and drinks. We tried pizza, which was delicious. Next time there is a plan to try pasta. Definitely worth to visit place.
We stayed here as part of a Florence and Venice romantic break for our wedding anniversary. We just adored this super cute gem from the moment we arrived. Everything was perfect, delicious breakfast, very clean and all the staff wonderfully helpful. Fantastically placed near the water taxi and just over 5 minutes walk to St Marks Square but really quietly...
We arrived at Rosa Salva at a difficult time as many people who had booked to stay had cancelled and the hotel was virtually empty.
Simone was on the desk when we arrived and he gave us a really warm welcome, a welcome that never ended the whole week we stayed here.
It’s a very stylish, contemporary place, whoever put...
The first thing to mention is a great central position: is located just in few steps from San Marco square, in a nice cozy courtyard. My other compliment is for an amazing stuff: thanks a lot for your precious advises and help!
When my husband and I were in our early 20's we took a three week trip through Italy which concluded in Venice. The last night we were there we went to the Gritti's Club del Doge for dinner and absolutely fell in love with the magic of the hotel. At that time, I couldn't even dream of staying in such...
The service here is always spot on, no matter what time of day. The breakfast was really nice, the rooms were really comfortable. It was like a maze to get to our rooms. We had a great nights sleep, the location is pretty good. Everyone at the front desk was very friendly and helpful.
