Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
This was the parish church of the Vespucci family, and Amerigo Vespucci is shown in one of Ghirlandaio's frescoes, Madonna della Misericordia. Botticelli's tomb is here, too. It also has a nice cloister, which we missed somehow.
I love to vidit churches, which are always an oasis of calm, and this was no exception. A very old church, built in the 1300s and 1400s, with spectacular frescoes, and a large expanse of grounds and displays. Very detailed stained glass windows. I will now admit to being an atheist, but I still like churches.
Large pedestrianised open space laid mainly to flag stones with some grassed areas and two obelisks, surrounded by buildings with the marble clad Basilica of Santa Maria Novella (floodlit at night) at one end (nearest the main station).
Unless very hot worth a wander through, always a buzz from the pavement cafes & passers by.
In a City boasting so many wonderful churches, it was pure chance that we found Ognissanti.
From the outside you are more likely to pass by than actually venture inside, but if you do, I promise you will not be disappointed.
I have been to many famous churches and cathedrals around Europe, but never have I spent so long just...
Stopped in here for dinner and was amazed by the quality of everything. Their house red wine pairs fantastic with steak. Their steak and fungi is amazing as well! I had Neli as a server (the owner’s brother) and he was fantastic!

Located along the Arno river, a few minutes from the centre of Florence, this restaurant provides a relaxing yet exciting experience. A friend and I (both 18) were greeted warmly and given a table outside, on our request! The waitress was incredibly friendly and attentive and the service was very quick! I recommend the swordfish "gnocchetti" and the house dessert...
We made reservations online for 8:30pm and we got right in past the line and the line was quite long. Once seated our wonderful waiter Antonio took great care of us! I had the filet with truffles and my daughter had sliced steak with rosemary and cheese. We ordered fries and spinach for our extra sides. We devoured our yummy...
I came here with my boyfriend after walking around near our Airbnb. We split some ham and cheese crostini and got ravioli for dinner. He had classic ravioli and I got the ravioli with zucchini flower and pine nuts. It was delicious!! We weren’t sure what we wanted for dessert. Being from the New York area, we’ve had many New...
Great hotel! Excellent service from check-in, to Concierge to bellmen. The Concierge arranged a wonderful day trip to Tiluscany for us. They also gave us really good dinner recommendations.
Very comfortable bed, great linens and large, luxurious bathroom.
This boutique hotel is absolutely beautiful. Elegant and well designed interior style together with exceptional customer service from all the staff have made the start to our stay in Florence brilliant. So close to the train station, we walked with our luggage in the middle to the heat of the day and it was very quick and easy.
Spent two nights in Florence at the Westin, great location - short walking distance to everything in Florence and still on the quiet side. The staff and service are exquisite, the Westin so far has become my favorite brand!
Didn’t get the chance to try the food at the hotel, but the rooftop terrasse is very nice, overlooking the Duomo...
