Vienna’s sixth district hosts high street shopping heaven and pedestrian area Mariahilfer Strasse. The weirdest local building is probably the city aquarium Haus des Meeres, housed in one of Vienna’s six remaining World War II defense towers, and topped with a rooftop bar that offers stunning views over Vienna and the centre. One of the most historic sites in the area is the passageway of 18th century Raimundhof with its small shops and cafés. It leads from Mariahilfer Strasse to Windmühlgasse. For a glimpse into the world of early 19th century theater, visit Semperdepot, the former depository for theatre decoration, which now hosts art exhibitions and fairs.
For any lovers of classical music, particularly the music of Joseph Haydn, this is a must visit.
Haydn lost his job at Esterhazy when the orchestra there was disbanded. But he was then a free man & could retire with a pension in Vienna. He bought what was then a little cottage in the country outside Vienna in 1796 with...
The Fillgraderstiege is a staircase in the 6th district, Mariahilf close to the Naschmarkt and Café Sperl. It was built from 1905 to 1907 and designed by Max Hegele, a student of Victor Luntz and Carl Hasenauer, in an Art Nouveau style to connect the two streets, Fillgradergasse and Theobaldgasse. The Fillgraderstiege staircase was named the fourth most beautiful steps...

"The best hidden gem in Vienna"
reviewed 3 days ago by Beantester
I can not describe the meals we had in all accuracy, but the salmon and the pork medallions were just out of this world.
Floor staff (only 2 men) absolutely old school professionals, multilingual and friendly. The restaurant is clean, tidy and has a great atmosphere. They even catered for our 3 year old! Danke vielmals!
We had dinner one evening over Christmas. There was a large party going on and we didn't have a reservation but they looked after us very well. The food is good, nicely priced and served quickly. Recommended.

We had a fantastic experience with this restaurant - great food, both steak and vegetarian options. Really delicious desserts. We were served by Michael who was very helpful, courteous and charming. I would totally recommend this restaurant to all visitors to Vienna. Thank you, (the lady who bumped her nose!)

We stayed three nights in Hotel Das Tyrol. What a lovely boutique hotel! The room was spacious and comfortable, and we got the balcony we had requested, plus a complimentary glass of Prosecco for booking directly with their website. The street it's on is pedestrianised so it's quite quiet and yet you're really close to so many Vienna attractions. I'd...
Loved Vienna and loved this hotel. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the breakfast was of a good quality with a good selection and the room was beautiful. Great location as well with many restaurants nearby.
Good hotel pretty well placed, easy to get to central Vienna on U3 metro from Westbanoff. Recommend Vienna Pass for short trip as it’s great value and saves time queuing. Really good local restaurants best was Kuckuck for authentic Austrian cuisine & service the Romanian waitress was amazing.
Clean, big room, small fridge, heating OK, WiFi great. Bathroom: clean (with shower), but no slippers and no shower cap.
Staff OK, helpful. There is also underground parking for a fee.
Location: 300 m to Metro U3 (Mariahilfer St.-the largest shopping street). Billa is just 2 min away from the hotel!
It would have been nice for a double room...
I made a last minute decision to ditch my Airbnb because of location. Kolping was great. When I checked in they gave me a room that I didn't like because of a wind-whizz sound and they changed me to a much better room. It feels like a hospital (clean) and I didn't hear a peep out of any rooms around...
