As the oldest in North America, San Francisco's Chinatown is an exotic experience. A unique neighbourhood decorated with colourful shops, historic streetlights, hanging lanterns, and pagoda roofs awaits behind the stone-carved dragon gates. Feast on dim sum at the tea houses, or meet the locals who gather at historic Portsmouth Square to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Fish markets, produce stands, tourist shops, jewelry stores, fortune tellers, temples and restaurants come together to create a world unto itself in this historic neighbourhood.
"A hidden gem nestled in a Julia Morgan structure near good food"

I spent the day at the Chinese Historical Society of America. This first photo is a piece of embroidery was made by a woman “detained” inside Angel Island (a very different experience from Ellis Island). By not widely teaching this history and learning from it, we condemn ourselves to continue to repeat it.
Unlike Ellis Island, where Europeans were subject...

In the North Beach area by City Lights Bookstore is Jack Keruac Alley. Jack Keruac was an American writer and poet. I liked seeing the sayings in the cement in the alley and also the many interesting wall murals.

When I walk into Molinari's, I know I will be happy with the wide variety of top quality food items. They have spices, cheeses, meats, and more. Staff is nice.
It is an Italian deli in the North Beach Area of San Francisco.
Fantastic dinner. My companion had the Crab Wok and I had the Ribeye. It was cooked perfectly and was tender. The side of Scalloped Potatoes were so delicious that I ordered an extra side to go. I really liked the service that Kelly our server provided. She was really a professional and wasn’t fake over the top and gave suggestions...
This was such a great culinary experience! Zipped down to Chinatown during lunch break and had to wait in line for about 25 minutes before ordering but it was well worth it. The BBQ pork buns were delicious and the shrimp dumplings too. Can't believe the prices either, so inexpensive for the quality of the food!
Large space for dining or shopping. I think it’s a small bit above average. Reservations strongly suggested. Large space, modern vibe, light wood, industrial accents.
Loud and noisy even at 6:15pm on a friday.
Got lucky without a reservation and seated immediately at the bar with full menu choices/options.
Let bartender know we were going to theatre later and had...

I would gladly recommend this hotel to all visitors. First, location. Nice, quiet, central, safe. Second, the hotel is very cozy and well kept. Third, the personnel is very helpful and attentive. We were lucky to have chosen it.
Loved our time here. The hotel is perfectly located, it is fairly close to Chinatown, and within a walking distance to the Union Square. The rooms are peaceful and spacious. Very good view from the rooms. Very kind and friendly staff there, didn't eat there, so can't commend on the food. Overall it's a good stay
We have hade a fantastic stay at this hotel and same fantastic recommendations of what to do from the bar staff Shakespeare and Tesh . They really got hole the way to tray to help us white our witches !!!
Tanks a lot.

My wife and I spent 3 nights here in late September. The location was outstanding. The room met our needs. The breakfast was kind of a throwback to the continental breakfast of years ago, but with a waffle machine added. Since I avoid pastry and bread for breakfast, it was pretty slim for me. They could boost it in any...
Nothing exciting about the Royal, but it’s clean and efficient with basic services although the wifi is last century and quite useless. But if you need a less pricey place to sleep this motel will do that for you. Good thing is you get a good variety of dining options between the Chinese and Italian districts, which is quite nice,...
