A flourishing commercial area that acts as San Francisco's LGBT community center and cultural heart, the Castro is a neighbourhood welcome to everyone. As one of the first predominantly LGBT neighbourhoods in the United States and currently its largest, it remains one of the epicenters of activism in the nation. Grand theatres and glitzy shops now compete with bars and fashionable eateries for attention, drawing visitors from around the world to the bright rainbow flag acting as its beacon.
This is the site of a big Metro station so there are always lots of people coming and going. It's also the gateway to the Castro District, historic gay neighborhood. Lots of places to eat and drink here. Not necessarily clean or spiffy, depends.
"An authentic French Bistro - my favorite for French food in the City"
reviewed February 12, 2020 by Val K
had been meaning to try this place out and finally achieved that.
just a shame that I did not make it there sooner.
nice buzzy atmosphere, efficient if somewhat aloof service, and really interesting flavours in the food.
Wines by the glass perfectly acceptable and good value.
from now, my go-to for French everyday dining.
The Anchor Oyster Bar and Seafood Market is the real deal--genuinely fresh local seafood including oysters, crab, salmon, shrimp, and other seafood dishes served with homemade sourdough.
The fresh Dungeness crab was outstanding, served hot with drawn butter or garlic butter, or cold if you like. Also started with an excellent Caesar salad.
The Ciappino also looked amazing.
Very Clean & safe. All staff were very helpful for thing to do in San Francisco and things to see in the Bay Area. I would recommend any families and friends to stay there. Looking forward to staying at Beck's for this coming summer.
Lets talk about the good things first.
1)Check in was really quick & smooth. We checked in at night 10ish, the receptionist girl kept everything ready.
2)This hotel is in the city & "painted lady" one of the attractions in SFO is in 10 mins walking distance
3)Plenty of eateries around.
4)Toilet was shared but found always clean.
