I am well-read, experienced in cooking and wine, travel a good bit, and appreciate quality things; but I dislike hype and marketing buzz. We have been to Paris, Vienna, New Orleans, Chicago and San Francisco: all great dining locales.
Bozeman is not a foodie town in my opinion. Tex-Mex and steaks are the most common offerings. Ketchup and mustard are considered spices here. Many restaurants cater to folks whom they will never see again. Sadly not much passion for excellence, either in cuisine or staff in many of our hyped restaurants.
We have learned to cook for ourselves because many restaurants simply rely on Bozeman tourism for their clientele. There are exceptions, of course, like South 19th Bistro and Saffron Table, but these a few and far between.
But we love the open spaces, mountains, rivers and forests here in Montana.
