A day trip with Real Wales Tours was the ideal way for our family to visit Caerphilly Castle, Hay-on-Wye and Brecon Beacons National Park on a day trip from Cardiff.

A favourite on our recent trip to Wales - Hay-on-Wye is a Welsh village world-famous for its many bookshops and its annual literary festival. The town’s history with books began in the late 60s when Richard Booth opened his first bookstore. (Mr Booth also unilaterally declared the town to be The Independent Kingdom of Hay with himself as King in 1977.) Today the town of 1500 has approximately 20 bookshops including these open air shelves which operate on an honour system.

On our last day in Cardiff we headed to the waterfront to explore Cardiff Bay. It was such a lovely day that we decided to follow the walking path to Penarth to see the Victorian era pier and pavilion. It was a long walk (much of it uphill) but it was worth it to see the beautiful pier!

We visited Cardiff, Wales for the first time on our recent spring break and fell in love with the city and the country. We especially enjoyed exploring Cardiff Bay. The city's waterfront area was once industrial land and has been transformed into a bustling district with cafes, restaurants and shops. It was such a lovely spring day that we followed the walking path around the bay and all the way to Penarth!
