Meals were acceptable and the restaurant allowed split bills which helped our large (14) group. However there was no water available with the meal except serve-yourself in dodgy plastic cups. Not good enough.

Thank you for your harsh comments about just acceptable meals, that is so rude we have people rating our food so high and we are very busy, thats one of the main reasons that we have a help yourself to water policy so we can atend to other drink and meal orders and not spend half of the night running water... If you're looking for a casual venue, good food selection, drinks selection. First visit - food hit was the ribs. Lasagne was superb (not a traditional looking lasagne). Second night back was for the 2-for-1 pizza night. That was a total hit for a hungry team of softballers. The venue is great - plenty of seating across different areas -... More

Monday is $10 burger night at the Rusty and its a great deal. Its become our regular thing Monday night to head off to the Rusty Pelican and order a gourmet burger with fat chips for dinner. Buns are nice fresh ciabatta and there are lots of burgers to choose from - Moroccan Lamb Burger, Cajun Chicken, Hawaiian, Gourmet Beef... More

Has a very extensive menu I had a pizza and my wife had the fish and chips which was excellent although the fish was surposed to be lightly battered it should have said heavily battered but it was crispy just the way we like it would definitely go back again

As always, the same reliable quality. Nothing too amazing, but a good family meal. More attention to service was needed.

We ordered some takeaway snapper, chips and two pizzas. The person who took our order was really helpful and perky, and told us the wait would be about 15 minutes. We told him we'd wait in the bar and he said they would bring it through for us when it was ready. We also told the barman that we had... More

We stopped here on our way up North and it was quick and easy. Staff are efficient and friendly. Wide range of choice - every pizza you could imagine. Mine was slightly undercooked towards the middle, but other than that - no complaints.

Amazing place. Amazing food. Most definitely the best place around the area to go to. And the specials are really something special.

This is fairly basic from the outside but produced a great pizza for 2 from a large menu. It was very tasty and despite the corner location on a busy Sunday night was fine. Top shelf it is not but price wise and quality with pleasant staff it is.

In 1998 Daniel and Julie Baturic designed and developed the local service station workshop into Matakana's first- ever pizzeria restaurant.
Some years later the Rusty Pelican was sold.
In 2007 Daniel Baturic with business partner Stu Wells repurchased the then fading restaurant to re-establish the original concept of hearty meals and pizzas to die for to make it once again a local iconic pizzeria restaurant.
Rusty's famous pizzas appeal to connoisseurs of casual dining and are just the thing to top off a day at the beach.
The extensive a la carte menu is sure to please with seafood, pastas, steaks and salads but be sure to leave room for the delicious desserts.
The revived success of this Matakana restaurant and bar has reaffirmed Daniel's philosophy that the Rusty Pelican is a venue where people can gather with friends and family over a generous, well priced meal. Good service with old fashioned hospitality is guaranteed.
The continued investment in the local community has the Rusty Pelican supporting school
fundraisers and sports teams such as the Mahurangi Junior Rugby Club, Omaha Beach Surf Life Saving Club, and Mahurangi College Sports teams to name a few.
"Matakana has a lot of visitors whom we welcome and cater for but focusing on our loyal year round local patrons is paramount" says Daniel.
The Rusty Pelican Pizzeria Restaurant understands the importance of catering for families and provides a welcoming well planned family atmosphere.
The Tui sports bar is also children friendly. Why not challenge Dad to a game of pool or have your family cheer for their favourite team on the big screen?
Check out our unbeatable winter value meal deals which enable the whole family to dine without breaking the bank.
