We haven’t been here for awhile and saw they had zucchini sticks as a special for the month of September so we thought we would stop in as it’s super hard to find good zucchini sticks (a favourite of ours) They were delicious and so...were the chicken wings. Beer was nice and cold and service was great. We will definitely return at least one more time this month and will make a point of stopping in more often as we forgot how good the food was!!!More

We were going to be visiting Cumberland. So first things first I always check Tripadvisor for things to see and where to eat. After reading bad reviews of the Waverly and great reviews of the Cumberland Hotel we decided to go to the Cumberland Hotel. Once...driving there from Duncan and finding the address. We we’re disappointed to see the Cumberland Hotel closed down indefinitely. There was a fella walking by us,so we asked him where to go for good eats. He recommended The Waverly. I had mentioned to my fellow travellers the bad reviews about the service etc. But by this time we were hungry. So we headed on in. We were greeted right away by a very cheerful gal (whom we found out later her name was Megan) From there it just got better and better. Within 4 minutes of being seated in this cool bar decorated of days gone by,I had requested a sample of the steak &potato soup that was written on the menu board. And by the 5th minute it was in front of me. It was delicious, big huge chunks of tender steak in a loaded veggie beef broth. I could go on and on here about the deliciousness of every meal that came to our table and our awesome, bubbly server but it’s late and I’ve had a full day. I just wanted to give this well deserved review so others can enjoy a great experience all around if they are visiting Cumberland. I know our party of four will be returning..More

On Friday, August 14 2020 my friends and I were excited to check out Cumberland as it was our first time to visit this historical landmark and have decided to have dinner at the Waverley Hotel Pub. At the get-go, it was a turn-off! There...were 5 of us and you couldn’t miss us if you tried but no one greeted us or made eye contact when in fact one of the ladies at the front bar was not doing anything. She clearly ignored us and kept talking to another lady server who was at the till. Zero for customer service! Not even a “hello, we’ll be there in a moment”! 5 minutes without acknowledgement is too long, sorry we’d rather bring our business somewhere else where it’s welcomed!More

Very disappointed. We we were a-party of six they were out of the pot pie, so my husband ordered duck sliders, said they were awful. Two had seafood chowder, it was cold. Shepherd pie mostly mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese special not good.

Although the menu we viewed online wasn’t on the menus we were given on arrival, we really enjoyed the nachos we chose in place of the fondue we had planned on. We added guacamole and shredded chicken, found it very tasty, with plenty of appealing...ingredients. The service was wonderful, the music was pleasant and a perfect volume, the ambiance was comfortable and fairly welcoming. With decent prices and the cleanest premises I could ever wish for, this was truly an enjoyable experience!More

The Waverly used to be a favourite with delicious, creative, fresh food but the last two times have been so disappointing I don’t think I’ll be back. The first time, we had chicken wings that tasted like old meat - that gross, reheated taste. I...never complain but we had to send them back. And then on our last visit we ordered the cheese fondue. It’s not a fondue - it’s a bowl of warmed, watery cheese sauce. The cornbread was actually inedible. So stale and flavourless. And the vegetables for dipping were in pieces so small, you couldn’t even dip them - they were little vegetable bits you needed to dip in the cheese with a spoon. Gross. Super disappointing as this used to be a favourite stop :(More

Four of us stopped in to the Waverley one day in August while out touring the area. The place was quite busy but we had no trouble finding a table. The wait staff were friendly, gracious and very efficient. While I can't recall what everyone...else ate that day, I ordered the chef's salad. To put it mildly, it was the best chef's salad I have ever had, anywhere.More

We went twice this week. We have only gone for the Friday prime rib for a couple of years and that has always been good. This week we went on regular week days. First day - fish and chips: fish was OK but portion small,...coleslaw awful, steak frit asked for medium came very well done, sliced probably on a cutting board so no juice at all and cold. Next day joined friends - burger dry, chicken burger soggy bun with awful coleslaw. We will not be returning until we heard things have improved.More

Everytime I visit, it seems like this place is getting better. From a place I would only frequent for cheap burger nights on Wednesdays to a frequent stop post bike ride. Menu has improved dramatically. Beer selection is more diverse. Servers are /have always been...fantastic. Definitely a place to check out for a meal and pint if you're in Cumberland.More

A great place to spend an afternoon or evening catching some fine music in vibrant Cumberland. Good food, lots of company and a swinging place to hang out.

Lived in the Comox valley for 2 years and have heard the locals talk about the ‘wave’ but never felt the need to drive to Cumberland and check it out. Finally had the opportunity last Friday night and I’m kicking myself for not going sooner....It’s an old school, Small town pub. Decor is nothing special but it’s warm and inviting and clean (huge bonus) You come to appreciate places like these I’ve learned:) It also doesn’t smell like some of the other pubs in CV... decades of beer spillage penetrating every surface (yuck) We were a group of 20 celebrating a birthday and not one person complained about their meal. All the food look amazing and I can’t wait to go back and try more dishes. Service was excellent even though it was a packed house with many people waiting for a seat. It’s clearly renowned and highly coveted by the locals. I ordered fish tacos and they were excellent. All the dishes were plated well, ingredients looked to be of the highest quality. The burgers looked amazing!! I will now be one the locals talking about the ‘wave’ and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone. Hardest decision is what to try next!More
