I’m going to start by saying that I'm usually all positive vibes only but after my experience tonight I have a lot of negative things that I need to get off my chest. First of all, Chhai Thai seems ambitious on the face of things...but their execution is so poor that it has led me to this. I went on a recommendation from a friend with a group of five. Two of us got there around 7:30 pm and ordered within 15 mins. The remaining 3 arrived around 8:06 pm and ordered around 8:24 pm. We had about 2 hours until the closing time and we chose to sit outside. 1. Waiting time is absolutely unacceptable The 7:30 pm order did not arrive until after 40 minutes! The order that was placed around 8:24 pm came sporadically with 3 of the 5 dishes arriving after 9:45 pm. Over 55 minutes to get served.. I mean come on. We realized that two of the Thai dishes were not even put in until the last minute because when we got it… it was as though it was cooked in 10 minutes. It seems as though the restaurant chose to accommodate more patrons than the chef, kitchen and serving staff could handle. And then wanted to use the ‘pressure’ as a glorified excuse. Obviously this establishment prioritized revenue over customer experience. Super disappointing! 2. Service was deplorable Unfortunately, it appears that the owners of Chhai Thai did not bother to get trained servers so the service was amateur (and that’s being generous) at best. In addition, the restaurant is severely understaffed which not only contributes to the ridiculous waiting times but to the overall bad service. 3. Lack of customer service We had very valid complaints. Drinks took well over 25 minutes, food up to 55 mins and when we made enquiries we were met with ignorant responses. There was no compassion for the fact that the customers were very agitated and dissatisfied. We were told that we “ordered late” and that “the chef is under a lot of pressure”. What is that supposed to mean to me? A couple on a table nearby were waiting the same time as us and when they asked what was the keep back, the owner or manager said something along the lines of “that’s a complicated dish”…? I’m sorry… what? Is that supposed to reassure me? All I can think now is that, like the servers, the chef too is unqualified. When we were finished eating the owner or manager (whoever) asked about our experience. We were all a bit peeved and disappointed so when we expressed this to her… she responded with a wave of ignorance that can only be marveled at. She went on to explain that “it’s a new restaurant so we have to expect this kind of thing”. When we reiterated that the waiting time was excessive… she said that in the States you wait long for a table and we said yes but the food comes out promptly. Basically, for every grievance we expressed we were met with a rude rebuttal and that was unjustified. Learn to take some constructive criticism or this restaurant won’t stand a chance in hell. 4. Food is low quality I’m not a food critic but I think I can hold my own when it comes to giving a fair review of a Thai-Indian fusion menu. And let me just say… this ain’t it! The quality of the meat was poor and the overall preparation seemed rushed and unprofessional. When people order lamb masala… they do not expect to get lamb shoulder aka a bowl of bones! In particular the rice. It was clearly not freshly prepared to order. The taste was remanent of that of catered rice that’s been sitting a service tray with a propane warmer beneath it all day. The “thai” food… honestly deserves a review on its own but as a pre-cursor I’ll just say that I advise against it. The Indian food got a better response but the naan was… how do I say… not really naan? It definitely was not made in a tandoori oven. Looked like an over-priced dhalpourie to me. 5. Price The prices are proportionate to the serving sizes so not a contentious point. But does not in the slightest compensate for the overall experience. 6. Covid violations The serving dishes were not always on trays, many of our plates were being handled directly by the owner/manager who was touching it with her bare hands. This disturbed me deeply. Just use a bloody tray! Also, please refill the soap in your customer restrooms. Overall rating- 1/10. I do not recommend that anybody take the long drive to check out this place. It is not worth your time, money or good manners. Go to Himchulli or Sombats instead- at least the proprietors there know a little something about the service industry. Last comments- I have been reading the reviews on the Facebook page and the responses from the owner Mr. Pradeep Dalipsingh are astounding! So, on that note, I will be posting this review over on my Trip Advisor account as well, should it magically “disappear” from the Facebook page. I’m sorry in advance to anybody who ends up at this restaurant. We will not be returning even if it’s the last place open on earth.More

Have you ever been to a restaurant where every dish that comes out of the kitchen leaves your taste buds mesmerized?. Chhai Thai is that restaurant!!!. I have been to many Thai/Indian restaurants all over Trinidad and THERE ARE NONE, that can complete with their...food. The food is mouth watering and so delicious, it leaves your body craving for more of those rich authentic flavors. The best part is that they are so affordable, when compared to other "High End" Indian/Thai Restaurants in Trinidad. The Restaurant is based at the Grand Diamond Hotel, mere minutes from the airport , which is another major plus to this establishment. So if you are a traveler, you can have your cake and eat it to!. This place offers affordable, clean lodging, located a mere 10 minutes from the airport, with one of the best restaurants on the island. And if Indian/Thai food is not your thing, they have other really good International Menu Items to to choose from.More
