We were very lucky as we managed to get a booking due to a cancellation on a Saturday night whilst staying in nearby Hassocks for a long weekend. A perfect birthday meal! Socially distanced tables, and all staff wearing face masks. It actually made a lovely change to sit in a restaurant and not be crammed in, the atmosphere was great. Staff were very knowledgable about each dish of the 6 course tasting menu. The food was absolutely delicious, the best meal we've ever had! The chef is obviously very talented! I also had the wine flight which complemented each course perfectly. I would defintely recommend this restaurant, and will 100% try to rebook again when we revisit the area. The meal wasn't cheap, but for a fine dining experience it was very good value, and would make a lovely birthday or anniversary celebration meal.

I decided to write a review of last Saturday's takeaway as the food was outstanding and very good value. I had a generous portion of gazpacho soup, followed by the Moroccan spiced lamb and a cheesecake dessert. It's fair to say that takeaways of the quality on offer here are rare. The main course required 20 minutes heating. This is made clear on the takeaway menu. In fact, this is fine as it means the food can be refrigerated at home and eaten a little later. I look forward to my next trip to either collect or eat there when the restaurant reopens.

Really enjoyed our takeaway last Friday. It was to celebrate my wife's birthday and it was great to be able to enjoy The Fig Trees superb cuisine even in these difficult times. Our meal was ready and waiting when we arrived and although some heating up is required when you get home we were provided with some very simple cooking instructions so everything was ready to eat in next to no time. We are great fans of this restaurant and have been regular dinners since James and Jodie opened. Many thanks to you both.

Went to a birthday of a relative today with 3 course meal. Welcoming drink and tasty canopies with calm friendly staff. Then cheese soufflé , pork medallion with glazed vegetables , rhubarb flan with little meringues and rhubarb ice cream . All beautifully presented with wonderful flavours and extras . Staff topped up drinks and were always there if needed without fussing and looked like they were enjoying being there . What a great place to find .

We are so relieved our new favourite local restaurant has opened once more. Somehow the dining experience ticks all the boxes. It is relaxed with beautifully paced service and excellent food. A simple tasting menu in theory but each mouthful is delicious, interesting flavours and combinations that work so well. Very accommodating of individual quirks, adjusting the menu for pescatarians with no fuss at all. We love going here since moving to Sussex last year and rate this as highly as some of the Michelin starred restaurants. Good all round dining. Thanks Jodie and the team.

We had an amazing evening at The Fig Tree. My mum had booked the week before not knowing I'd booked for us to go and when she told the restaurant they created a special menu just for us so that she could try something new the following week. Outstanding food and service.

We had the most delicious meal last Saturday, so delicious in fact that we have ordered again for this weekend. Our food was as tasty as it is in the restaurant and was the closest we can imagine to having a restaurant meal at home. It’s so carefully thought out and packaged that it’s easy to serve like it’s just been delivered directly from the Fig Tree kitchen. We had smoked haddock tart with salad followed by chicken in a mushroom and truffle sauce and they were divine! And the menu changes each week so we can treat ourselves weekly 😀 Support this fabulous restaurant during lockdown - you won’t regret it.

We had the pleasure to dine at the Fig Tree last night, I must say it was a delight, the food was excellent as was the atmosphere, the restaurant is small and inviting with good seating, well-spaced, gives a peaceful relaxed feeling to dine in. The service can not be faulted, very attentive and informative. For sure we will be back very soon.

I was lucky enough to be invited to a work event where we booked the entire restaurant for 32 members of staff for a 7 course tasting menu with wine flight. Immediately impressive, The Fig Tree is a pretty restaurant on the High Street in Hurst which feels warm and welcoming to visit. We were greeted with sparkling wine which was topped up by the wonderful owners and paired with exquisite canapes. We then sat for a leisurely dinner where each and every course was delectable in flavour and beautiful to look at. As a pescatarian I was well catered for and each wine serve worked well with each course. The cheese coure was generous shared between four with local cheeses and biscuits and the dessert wines were the best I'd ever tasted. The staff were incredibly attentive while not being over bearing and I will definitely be returning for a more intimate affair with one or two friends as it had such a lovely atmosphere.

Once again an enjoyable meal at the Fig Tree. The service was good with just the right amount of time between courses. Chef was very happy to adjust my main course as I have an allergic reaction to scallops. Having owned a house in a wine growing region of France for 10 years we both opted for English wines which compared very well against their gallic counterparts. My one small gripe was that with my coffee it would have been nice to have a petit four or chocolate as an accompaniment. This is pretty standard in restaurants these days especially ones that possibly aspire to a Michelin star. As I said, "it's the little things that matter".

First time I visit after seeing a friend's recent trip. We were instantly and made to feel very welcome and the high level of service continued throughout the evening. The two ladies running the dining room were absolutely faultless, friendly, accommodating, genuinely interested and lovely. The food - wow! We had the tasting menu and from start to finish, it was astounding! Perfectly balanced flavours, the duck was cooked to perfection, the dessert was amazing but not too sweet and the palate cleanser... I could eat a big bowl of that any day of the week! We look forward to returning soon!

Went here with a group of 8 for a night out and had a wonderful evening. The food was absolutely spectacular and the wine matching each was super too. The timing between each of the 9 courses was spot on with plenty of time but not too long a gap. The local cheeses were delicious and with two desserts came two dessert wines of very different character. All in all a perfect evening. Took around 3 hours from start to finish. Highly recommend. Planning on returning for a couples night soon.

Simply exquisite food that looked as good as it tasted. On our Saturday evening visit we were served the summer tasting menu that very much celebrated West Sussex and the season. The wine we chose from the nearby winery was a perfect accompaniment too. Our Maîtresse D (and joint- owner as partner to James, the chef) Jodie, made us very welcome and the two staff waiting on us were knowledgeable about every course. We savoured every mouthful. A perfect way to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Thank you so much.

Beautifully presented food of consistently excellent quality. The tasting menu of 6/7 small courses was the only option available and was well worth the price. Definitely recommend. Pleasantly cheerful staff

On a quiet dank Wednesday night we turned up for the first time since the pandemic began. How lovely to get such a beautiful meal and such warm efficient service. The chef did not once lose sight of his clean tasty elegant vibe. It was the very definition of a treat. All our dietary quirks were catered for and no-one felt that they were getting a worse deal than the others. I can wholeheartedly endorse the Orange Abbey Cocktail in fact we could have endorsed it several times over but wisely decided to stay sober enough to appreciate the cooking.
