Great place to stop on the C2C Walk, much better than in Shap. We had Room 2, which was large with a big window looking over the historic church across the lane. But, the twin beds felt like sleeping on the springs rather than the mattress. I used the pillows under my body so I could get comfortable. Also, the... More

Quaint old pub, well presented with friendly helpful staff. Meals normal pub food nothing exceptional. Rooms neat and tidy but quite small- not enough room to put two bags on the floor but comfortable. Walls are paper thin and any noise from the hall or next bedroom clearly heard. Room keys have cute small cowbells attached so we could hear... More

I'm sure this pub may usually be OK, however, our visit was a big let down. They let us order (and pay for) a round of drinks, only to immediately after inform us that they could not serve us food as the chef was off & the landlady was in the kitchen. Therefore, only serving residents, not helpful with a... More

Excellent home cooked meal with great service and lovely room. We were sitting on a table with 6 more hikers and everyone thought the food was superb. The only pub we stayed in on the Coast to Coast would love to return.

We visited here on the 1st of May for dinner. We were a party of 14 and initially we were informed that they were unable to cater for us. Once they were aware that we were staying in the village they arranged for us to dine with them and went out of their way to accommodate us. The food was... More

We were in Bampton for the night and visited for dinner. We were very impressed with the quality of the food: tremendous chicken liver pâté with spiced pear chutney, a well-spiced sweet potato soup, then haddock with excellent home made chips and a very tasty well aged steak with a nicely dressed salad. The local beer was well kept, the... More
