Open fires and a warm welcome at this lovely unique gem , even our dog drags us in now . Specials reflect the catch of the day , hubby enjoyed perfect sirloin medium rare steak and I had the blue cheese and walnut salad, dog enjoyed the chips with us 😃

Surprised to find this listed as a restaurant as it comes across as being a pub? We went in on a Sunday at about 1.45pm and were surprised to find just one other table occupied when other places in the village seemed pretty busy. We ordered sandwiches and drinks and sat by an open fire which was a bit smelly.... More

I am loathed to write an extended review for our last visit by be warned it was a grim evening! The room along with our welcome was cold and the food and service were little better. This place only a couple of years ago was top drawer but not it appears to have rolled off the cliff! It's a stones... More

We arrived for a birthday meal on a Saturday to find we were the only people in the restaurant. The welcome was nice and we were seated quickly by the door, as the door to the street was open the internal door was doing little to stop the cold air coming in and the other only sources of heat appeared... It seems reading the other reviews below that this restaurant has an inconsistent policy for children. We, eight in total, (including me carrying a 6 month old sleeping baby, two 13 year olds, and a 4 year old ) went into the restaurant for drinks and food. We asked for a table and the waiter then disappeared only to return... More

Stopped off for Saturday lunch, just passing. We were made very welcome, good real ale from the Ex brewery, we had crab sandwiches, one us had soup and one Moule Frites. Food was excellent, really fresh. More crab in the sandwiches than bread, big fat moule cooked very well. Lemon posset for dessert seemed home made. Sat next to the... More

We were staying at Branscombe, a walk from Beer- for new year. The restaurant was really busy - 2nd January and the weather was lovely so everyone was out and about. We sat outside and had potted crab, scampi and bread and butter pudding- all with Champagne. Fabulous. They were struggling with so many people, but it was totally fine-... More

Was looking forward to a spot of lunch in the quiet pretty town of Beer after a lovely long walk to Branscombe and back. However myself and my friend were refused entrance to the restaurant as we had our 2 small children with us (6 month old well behaved babies). Apparently it is against their Health and Safety Policy to... More

Lovely Stilton ploughmans and mixed ham, cheddar and Stilton ploughmans for hubby . good coffee, open fire and very pleasant surroundings and service. Dogs welcome , and many locals with their dogs seem to regularly lunch here . will definitely be back

Not a great experience here. Had the hake with herb crust with salsa. The fish was good enough but it was spoilt by the salsa which tasted as if it had come from a Dorito jar and spoiled the whole dish. Their coffee machine had broken as well which meant a long wait for a very unsatisfactory drink. The waiter... More
