You must book two weeks in advance. We tried contacting before hand but visited without a response. (Trying our luck) when we got there we met the most loveliest guy who apologised for not being able to accommodate us. He told us all about the menu. The place is just so beautifully quaint and a real gem. We spoke with... More

I am absolutely in love with this place. After 11 months on the road we were homesick for more than just friends & family. Cafe el Artesano was exactly what we needed. We got some traveler friends and headed over for an afternoon of cheese, wine, fruit, nuts, and wine. Oh my! It was so good we went back two... More

Ok, yes, you have to make reservations at least a couple weeks in advance. They have a small, simple space, and only do one seating per table per day. Not open weekends (wish they were!) and only open a few hours each day, 4 I believe. Most plates are for at least 2 people. We took a tuk tuk there,... More

El Artesano Wine and Cheese Restaurant is an exceptional Italian café that is located along the shores of Lake Atitlan in the village of San Juan La Laguna. The food and ambience are amazing. We had the cheese plate made up of 27 different soft, hard, aged, and mixed cheeses. It was delicious and the presentation looked like a work... More

What a fantastic experience! We were recommended to come by a family member and I'm so glad that we did. We had the cheese and meat platter and both were fantastic! The owner was very welcoming and knowledgable about the produce which is all local from Guatemala. Left with a full belly and a smile on my face. Would definitely... More

A beautiful place with a family atmosphere and incredibly knowledgeable local staff. The food and drinks are amazing and the attached cafe was my favorite one all around the lake. Recommended!!!

Very disappointed that we were not able to have get in without reservations. Met the chef and he said they make the cheese & bread everyday for the exact amount of reservations only. This is the real deal. Hope to get to return and try it someday

I just got back from my third lunch at El Artesano. (If it were open on weekends that number would be a lot higher) Our group of 4 shared a cheese plate for 4 and meat plate for 2 and it was the perfect amount for us. As always, the food was spectacular, the service friendly and the ambiance charming.... More

Thought we'd get lucky and fine an empty table. Fat Chance! A reservation is a must. The chief greeted us, he was most gracious and explained without a reservation he just didn't have the space to accommodate us for two more days. We really missed out.

Another great lunch with Dietrich at el Artesano- check out these pics. The cheeseboard and cured meats are what you want to order. Fantastic today as usual.
