But.... I haven't had that much genuine tonkatsu before. Having said that, it was really flavoursome with a nice crunchy coating. The disappointment mainly was because there was only the standard cut left (apparently the top notch cuts run out in the morning!!). Queue time about 15 minutes. Don't be put off by the length as the restaurant is pretty... More

Unbelievably delicious and flavorful. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Definitely a great eat in Tokyo. I have never had any Tonkatsu this good. The Kurobuta pork Katsu was heavenly. A bit on the pricy side though.

Only after we went did we find out this is the "it" place for Tonkatsu. The Tonkatsu was absolutely delicious and upstairs is a tatami mat room, which was a first for us. I highly recommend!

I was sooo excited to finally get to try Tonkatsu Maisen, but maybe I hyped it up too much that it wasn't as amazed as I thought it would be, but my friends loved it. We tried the pork belly starter, which is definitely worth a try and the kurobuta tonkatsu, which was good, but just a little too greasy... More

I loved the way they coated pork in batter. It was super tasty, the place was very clean and the staff were attentive and friendly. I highly recommend this place.

This is a must place in Tokyo if you like Tonkatsu. The food is excellent n the service is nice. It's a big place so if you can avoid the usual busy hours you don't have to wait that long or not at all. There's an English menu so it's not hard to order. My favourite is Black Pork Filet... More

Really tasty tonkatsu! Super popular so be prepared to queue, but worth the wait. Fresh ingredients, although not many vegetables apart from shredded cabbage so vegetarians should probably go elsewhere

On arrival the restaurant looks quite small so don't be put off if it looks busy. Go in - it's cavernous! The staff are friendly, service is good and they speak enough English that you won't get stuck. The Tonkatsu meals have various options. You can choose between loin and fillet. The fillet is slightly more expensive but much tastier.... More

On April 2015, it was my first time had lunch in Maisen & on end of December 2016, I back again for dinner & lunch. Last time it tasted so good but this second round I started to feel it a bit greasy and too oily but the pork still juicy. I also hate their sauce both the special or... More

Staying in Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu

Neighbourhood Profile
Shibuya / Harajuku / Ebisu
There are countless opportunities to shop in the Shibuya and Harajuku districts, especially in shops that focus on Japan's "Kawaii" culture. The trendiest areas are around Shibuya’s Center district, Harajuku's Takeshita-dori and in Omotesando. If you need to recharge from all the shopping, you can easily refresh yourself in Meiji Jingu or Sasaki Park. In contrast, Ebisu has a more grown up ambiance of calm and cool. At the Museum of Yebisu Beer you can learn about the beer that was responsible for the town’s name, and enjoy dining at the popular noodle shops in the surrounding area.
