The restaurant grants a great experience in a traditional Japanese way. The food is awesome, with a fair price. You can choose between normal chairs and tables or eating at the tatame.

We came here for lunch after finding the Sumo wrestling centre closed. The experience at Chanko really made our day. Excellent food and such warm friendly staff. We had the chanko nabe dish which was fantastic. This restaurant is a must visit for people visiting Tokyo.

We found "Chanko Tomoegata" in one of the quiet streets around the Ryogoku Kokugikan after visiting the Sumo Museum. The staff member at the door couldn't speak english, but quickly phoned someone who brought us an english menu. After showing which stew we would like to try the cook poped his head out of the kitchen and showed us a... More

Since we were going to attend a sumo tournament the next afternoon, we wanted to try the same food that sumo wrestlers eat.  We found this restaurant through Trip Advisor.  We arrived just after 1:30 and the restaurant closed at 2.  We ordered combination plates, including the chanko stew that sumo wrestlers apparently like to eat in great quantities to... Our party of five got there right when they opened. We checked in and then was directed to the second floor. Portions are more than enough and staff had very limited English but was very friendly. The menu had English on it too. We had a chicken stew and it was delicious. The place filled up quickly. Payment is made... More

We stopped by this restaurant after watching a practice at a sumo stable and the meal was extremely good and very very filling. The hot pot came with some rice, sashimi, some sauces and pickled vegetables. The restaurant is close to the subway and is vry clean and with very nice wait staff. It was also reasonably priced as compared... More

We wanted to try a sumo wrestler meal before watching the actual match. The restaurant was recommended as one of the top 10 restaurants to try a sumo wrestler type meal. We ordered lunch sets from the English menu and was very happy with the food. The hot pot was very filling and kept us going until after the match... More

We ate there before we watched the sumo fight. You can buy sumo omiyage/souvenir at the entrance. The place was clean. There were smoking and non smoking rooms too. The food was delicious and they have big servings too. Def will go back next time

After watching Sumo we had to eat sumo food, of course! I think we were the only non-japanese in this restaurant. So, rather traditional style and super friendly staff! In Chanko-Nabe you sit around a hot pot where you put in vegetable, meat and fishballs (something like japan Fondue Chinoise) Very Very tasty! Great food, great staff, great location!

After a morning seeing sumo wrestlers practice we wanted to try Chanko Nabe - the traditional sumo food. We saw great reviews for Chanko Tomoegata on TripAdvisor and we're happy to add our own excellent review. One thing to note - the restaurant doesn't open until 11:30 (the website says 11am). Make sure to get there right when it opens... More
