Komagata Dozeu is located near Asakusa area and it takes about 5mins on foot from Asakusa station. "Dozeu" madns "loach" in Japanese and it pronounces "Dojyo". This restaurant offers loach-pod as my pictures shows. Although we Japanese does not eat "Dojyo" as usual but in Edo period we did. This restaurant was established in 1801!! and it has been offered... More

This place has become a 'must go' every time I visit Tokyo. First with my granddad and now as a memory to granddad I go with my 94 year old grandmother. The only restaurant of it's kind in Tokyo. It serves eel-like freshwater loaches, challenging for the first timer but an absolute delight. Make sure you order extra goboo (burdock... More

I was born in Hokkaido, so I've never seen and eaten Dojou(written in Dozeu). Firstly, I was kind a shocked with the shiny skin of the fish. I could not open the chopstick because I had no idea how we eat this. My bf had one experience before. Luckily, he served a plate for me, and eat before I eat.... More

Nice authentic dinner in this 200 years old restaurant. Popular Unagi eel dish. Tatami seating might be awkward and cramped but the setting is worth the inconvenience. Will come back.

I wanna say sorry to these reviewers here, but my tounge is not suitable for this kind of menu. The taste is very tasteless and strange. OMG,I cant eat at all. The fish is so weird for me. And the price is so over. You need to pay 2500 yen per person. Not worth it. Moreover we need to queue... More

200 years history. Authentic simple dishes prepared with care. Kind service. Old Japanese house. Great time with true friends. One kind of cold sake : Good taste, served in cedar wood box. You can chose to be seated at table (not authentic) or on tatami mat (authentic ). Go for it.

I hate when see resto full with tourist. But this place is 100% Japanese hahaha except us though. You will feel really like in Japan and in ancient era. You eat on the floor... very different kind of eating style and an unforgettable eating moment. The foods are awesome. The price is not cheap but worth all the way. Trust... More

I had one of the most authentic dinner experiences at this charming restaurant. The food was excellent, and the staff were friendly and helpful. Other reviews mention that the restaurant doesn't have menus in English, however, when I went there they offered me one, so you'll have no trouble knowing what to order.

Very old classical house. Looks very nice! Next to the shop, interesting statues of comic characters are there. My first time to try dozeu. It was soft and good!

Took advice of reviewers . Thank you . A beautiful simple setting . Imagine Edo - former name for Tokyo . Nearly didn't stay as only non/floor seating upstairs with a heap of smokers puffing away . Due stairs no smokers - freshly cooked healthy sardines and chicken balls with hot sake .

Staying in Ueno, Asakusa

Neighbourhood Profile
Ueno, Asakusa
Traces of the history and culture of the Edo (old Tokyo) era remain vividly in Ueno and Asakusa. Spacious Ueno Park is a great place to relax and visit a variety of different museums and galleries. At Ameyoko which starts in front of Ueno station, the grocery stores and clothing shops are crammed alongside fishmongers. It gets particularly busy at the end of the year, when many people go on shopping sprees. The town of Asakusa, developed around Sensoji temple, has many shops selling goods and clothing from old Japan, making it a great place for souvenir hunting. It's also known for various annual festivals, and the whole district gets involved with the huge Sanja Festival in May.
