We read reviews of Lola’s before we went and were not disappointed. We stayed the entire day and enjoyed the drinks (strawberry monkey drink I think), lunch and the beach. The food was good but I think the best part was truly relaxing and having someone bring you drinks. David was our waiter and it was so good and had a smile on his face the whole time. The chairs and hammocks around the restaurant are free but the chairs and umbrellas on the beach are not. We didn’t realize that at first and although $40 for two chairs and an umbrella is expensive, we stayed for hours so it was worth it to have some shade and stay out of the sun a bit. My husband saved the day and actually helped pull out a couple of older guys from the ocean who were struggling in the current. Overall I would recommend coming and spending the day here if you are in the area.

If you are in this area this restaurant is worth a visit, maybe the best food you can get there as well.
They have a very attractive and supporting philosophy where they contribute to the environment and local communities.
The prices are quite stiff, staff was nice and the atmosphere very relaxing.
Reserve table in high season and in the afternoon might be necessary, not many people there when we went quite early.

We reserved a table well in advance via Lola's website. Upon our arrival at 10am, we were directed to an oceanfront table with adjacent hammock and two wooden lounge chairs. Our party of 6 stayed until 4pm and were only charged for our food and drinks. The service was outstanding and the food was great. While the food prices may appear a little high for this area, we found the quality to be exceptional and well worth the cost when you consider the opportunity to hangout all day at one of the most beaches you will find.

We ate lunch here during our visit to Playa Avellanas. The setting is beautiful – right on the beach, lots of rustic wooden furniture, and abundant shade from the palm trees and other plants. However, the service was lacking. There were servers and busboys running around but no one to direct us to a seat, and then it took a while to place our orders. There was one particular staffer who gave us a really hard time when we asked if we could sit at an open table as well as if someone was coming by to take our order, saying he was too busy to help us. When this same staffer came to deliver our food, he literally tossed the plates on the table without saying a word, causing some of the food to fall off the plate. We ordered a chicken sandwich and mahimahi tacos which were fine, though overpriced for the quality. We ate quickly and then returned to our beach chairs afterwards. We were disappointed because our guidebook had praised Lola’s and we wanted to enjoy our time there, but after the service we received we just wanted to eat as quickly as we could and leave.

Sad to share this:( ! We always recommend Lola's not just because it is thee beautiful restaurant on the beach, also best service, atmosphere, good peole watching and good menu.
Was at Lola's twice in a 3 week period. Both, 1st time wife & I took ourselves out for fun, 2nd had friends we haven't seen for many-many years staying in Tamarindo and wanted to visit our area and wanted to have them experince our Lola's. So embarrased we p/u the check (meal not good and too expensive)! Both times our favorite 'Poke' wasn't normal porportion, Was small! 2nd time also ordered 'Mediterianian' chicken wrap $16.00. We're accoustom this with a thicker size wrap, usually Pita. This was a very thin tortilla, plus looked like 1/2 of a 1/2 chicken breast and NO side or garnish. Then big surprise, the Check for 1 appitzer, 1 lunch meal, 1 beer, total of 6 cocktial drinks for party of 4 (girls had 4 mojitos) . Drinks were fine! Total check was too much for a meal that was very ordinary and popular dish was small (Poke)! Plus another experince our Guest on a different day. Also went and became ill after having the 'Poke' and they agree not any food spectacular, just normal.
Service Still very good, atmosphere also. For the price too high and now quality not good, just normal menu. Have more old friends arriving tomorrow and we'll allow 1 more experince to verify. Just sad b/c was a fun good establishment to show off and even go for ourselves. Didn't want to write this, neighbors mentioned we should... Don't mind paying & have, IF it is out of the ordinary as well as a good meal!

I am not the person to write bad reviews, but we had what was probably the worst service I’ve ever experienced while at Lola’s. We chose to go to Lolas after hearing some great reviews from friends, so we were excited to check it out and hang by the beach. Unfortunately, we only got as far as our first round of drinks and an appetizer (which were good but took 1 hour to get). After we finished our first round and app, our waiter cleared our dishes and glasses without saying a word then proceeded to ignore us for the next hour as he tended to the larger table of 8 people. We noticed that there were at least 3 other tables near us becoming just as frustrated as we were. All the waiters seemed almost pissed off to be there and running around like chickens with their heads cut off. From what I could gather, if you don’t have a table of at least 5 people then you will not get any service. It honestly seemed like they wanted us to leave. My wife and I have pretty good patience (especially while sitting by the beach) but after sitting there for more than 2 hours, getting one drink and and app, and the waiter asking the larger table next to us if they needed more ice for their water pitcher rather than even acknowledging us, we had obviously had enough. Very disappointed that we didn’t get to try the food since it did look great, but it just wasn’t worth the terrible service. I would NOT recommend unless you go with a larger group.

Lola’s is a great place to visit if you’re at Playa Avellana...it’s right on the beach!
Decent food...not amazing but solid even if it’s a little overpriced...but you’re also paying for the view! We went 2x while we staying in Tamarindo for 3 weeks. 1st time we had the wooden tree loungers which were free (I believe you can rent an actual lounge chair and umbrella for the day which is closer to the beach). 2nd time we just had a table for the day. You can also use their hammocks for free!
Lola’s seems to get a little crowded on the weekends. We went there around 12noon both times and stayed til 4:30ish but we were buying food and drinks all day. We could have just gone for lunch and that would have been fine too. Not sure what they do for dinner/evening.

We enjoyed our ~5 hours at Lola’s one afternoon while we were in Tamarindo. The restaurant is nice, open air, and clean, and the chairs and umbrellas they offer are comfy and high quality. However, the whole thing is quite overpriced. Two chairs and an umbrella cost $40 to rent for the day. (The place not ten feet away offers the same for $20.) The food at Lola’s was just ok, nothing incredibly delicious, but it did keep us full. But just like most places in the area, the food was overpriced. You do get a waiter for the day along with your chair and umbrella should you choose to purchase them, and while we did get checked on every so often, we typically couldn’t find our waiter when we actually did want to order something. (Or they were busy explaining to whole setup to some newcomers rather than waiting on the people who had already paid for the day.) Nice way to spend the day, but definitely a costly day at the beach.

We came back here after 5 years and we enjoyed it as much as last time.
Food is great and service is excellent. We found it worthwhile to pay the $40 for nice lounge chairs on the beach with an umbrella....sun and sand gets quite hot !
Beach is awesome too
A very unique place ...in the middle of no where....like walking into paradise!

The all wood tables and chairs with sun shades and a beach front view is ever so inviting. When we first looked at the menu it seemed a bit expensive until we were served. The healthy portions account for the costs.
I had the seared tuna salad and it was perfectly seared with lots of greens. My partner had the fish tacos and it was enough that I didn’t give him anything from my plate. We also got the calamari which was fresh with a nice light crisp topping.
The passion fruit smoothies came in a 16 ounce glass and quenched our thirst. The sweetness was dessert enough.
A great lunch spot !
We stumbled upon this place as the one next door wasn’t open and we’re glad.

Everybody goes to Lola's beach bar. And it's very good. And the beach is big and full of all kinds of people, locals and tourists. But it's a typical big operation tourist bar and you have to fight for service, It's the kind of place you find in many overblown tourist destinations. So go to the beach for the day, eat at Lola's, and enjoy it. But it won't be the highlight of your stay in CR.

We tried this restaurant due to the excellent reviews and good spot at the beach. The veggie burger and mango juice was delicious and my husband enjoyed his pesto pasta and pineapple juice. I was able to buy some cute clothes at a reasonable price as well.

Came here for lunch after a wonderful time on the beach and sea.
You get the menu online which was a bit of a hassle, since nobody told us.
After20 minutes of waiting we finally sussed it out and ordered some beers and 2 starters - ceviche and chicken satay.
The r quality and quantity was good and the location wonderful - on the beach.
The overall cost was high for a starter and 2 drinks each it came to $22 each, which is expensive.
The location and ambience keep it at 4 stars.

This place is a must when you are in the area. The atmosphere is fantastic, right on the beach. The food was delicious and the drinks were cold. Staff was very kind. My only negative is that we did wait a long time for service, not sure if they were short staffed or just extra busy so we didn’t get too worried about it. Overall a gem of a place!

Our whole family LOVED Lola’s and Playa Avellana! I highly recommend making a reservation for their beach chairs in the morning and a table for lunch in the afternoon so you can spend the entire day here. AND I would recommend you go early in your vacation so you can spend another day here later! It’s hard to say if the food, service or ambience was better, because it was all excellent!! Kids loved the pizzas and chicken nuggets with Dutch fries (one of the owners is Dutch!) I devoured my shrimp tacos, and my wife said she had the best salad of her life. Everything was so fresh and delicious and huge portions. Our waiter was delightful and we stayed ALL day, right through the sunset!
